Well, I assume Getz is acquiring pitchers that Bannister suggests to him.

In any case, I have a feeling no one is going to be very happy with the scrubs Getz manages to acquire by the deadline. Prices are too high.

Of course. RubRub is so bored of his own shtick, he's not even really trying, anymore.

I'd be fine if he gets clever and Urquidy becomes ace of the staff. Just win, baby.

We have no excuse not to buy a top-end SP in free agency this offseason. As such, I’d rather keep Bonemer and go with a cheaper SP at the deadline. I truly believe we should not be doing “all-in” trad

Trevor Bauer is an awful clubhouse fit even if you believe him innocent of any criminal wrongdoing. I also don’t understand why anyone would think a 35 year old pitching in the Nippon League or where

Who gives a s%*# who gets the "credit". From what we've been told or has leaked Getz's biggest strength is not worrying about credit and simply letting his folks get the job done to the best of their abilities. If Bannister isn't getting it down, he'll be replaced sooner or later. For now it's a moot point. He's not getting let go during the home stretch here and he will have input.

I've said this before, but Bannisters job is to develop arms. Getz job is to identify talent that aligns with Bannister's strengths, not to have Bannister tell him who to acquire. Bannister isn't in the talent identification game, he's in the talent development game. Those two things are different skills IMO.

Let's properly distribute credit and blame where it aligns.

No, Getz's job is to manage the interaction between scouting and development. It's shorthand to say that "Banny's got a type". Sorry if that confuses you. I would imagine scouting and "Banny" are on the same page in that the scouts already know what our developmental strengths and preferences are, and they're making sure dudes look healthy and as advertised.

There are entire departments that run numbers on everyone in the league, and asst-GMs who get all the trade talk started. Getz delegates. That's how he ends up announcing that Acuña's a switch hitter.

Seriously, if you think that Chris Getz is sitting in the stands of a game in Rancho Cucamonga with a radar gun, you're not even clearing the low bar you've established for your posts.

I’m not arguing your point, but I think it can be assumed that Bannister talks to Getz and makes suggestions on pitchers that he would like to work with or that he thinks he can makes some tweaks to improve their game, if they were acquired.

And no, Bannister's job is not to develop arms. He's director of pitching. Setting the team philosophy of what type of pitchers to pursue based on what the team wants to invest, or what statistical traits to look for to find "market inefficiencies" that they can easily work with.

You seem to be leaning into this "blame" framing. I'd expect that sort of argument from that crying child from yesterday's game, but only when he's really tired and hungry.

Lauer was literally released this year. He's old and washed. This wouldnt even be an improvement. It would be like adding another Fedde.

I was watching the Dodgers last night and they kept saying how that was his last start most likely. I immediately got nervous it meant the Sox would go after him.

Robbie Ray sucks. I'd rather just bring up Sandlin or something.

Leave my RubRub alone!!!

Robbie stuff has definitely taken a step back and he's benefiting big time from that ballpark, but he's still better than Sandlin imo.

sure, but the cost isn't worth it, including the opportunity cost. Getting a 1 WAR starter is just doing something to do something. Improving the rotation requires more than that.

His peripherals aren't great, but he'd easily be the 3rd best starting pitcher on this team right now.

Huh? The director of pitching job is supposed to develop pitchers.

You love the term market inefficiency. Not everything you do is about market inefficiency. Most things you do are playing to your strengths, not everyone else's weaknesses.

Getz isn't scouting players? He isn't the final decision maker on the roster?

Interesting takes. If all Getz does is delegate, what exactly is he adding in his role?

My worry with Robbie is all those fly balls in our park vs San fran.

He is, and he is.

But there’s no way he’s only trusting his own opinions on pitching talent. Even if was a pitcher instead of an infielder in the majors, he would still be listening to other members of his staff on pitchers to target.

It’s not unlike the corporate world. The higher up you go, the more you delegate to other people. Of course, if s%*# hits the fan, you are also ultimately the one to blame.

Leaders lead. Followers bicker about definitions of roles.

If they're going to sell the farm for Skubal, or drop some lifetime dime on a free agent, yeah, I think Getz might watch a game or a bullpen. But no, he's not traveling all over the country to watch somebody's rehabbing pitcher throw a game in AAA. And the scouting they're doing, probably watching to see if the pitcher's really doing what the numbers indicate, or looks like a healthy version of himself, he employs guys who do that better, and that's their job.

If the Sox are seriously interested in maybe 20 starting pitching targets, a dozen bullpen arms, 4-6 catchers and a bunch of RH bats, why in the world would he be scouting them?

What about Hunter Greene? Just comign back from a major injury and has injury issues. I think he's a hell of a pitcher though.

The cost would be insane. Bonemer plus

Tigers promoting Max Clark.

Maybe holding Skubal now?

Doesn’t mean anything. They were sellers at the deadline 2 years ago and got hot and snuck into playoffs.

I guess that makes you a follower since you are here bickering about roles.

Horrible challenge.
