Yes I agree. Use Dominguez as an opener or never after the 7th.

He is still a solid piece for the pen - he just shouldn’t be closing right now or at least not the primary. Grant Taylor was awful tonight too.

Taylor has a sub 1 era in 8 save appearances and a 3.6 era in 16 non saves. Dominguez has mirror numbers but even more dramatic. For Venable to have access to this information and ignore it night after night is mind boggling.

Jacob Gonzalez needs to be sent down. I'm not giving up on the kid..... he's had a chance to face major league pitching and they have figured him out. Now he needs to go down and work on some things and see if he can figure out major league pitching

I’m not giving up on him but that was a bad move by Will. Acuna is seeing it well and Jacob is in a slump. You could see Jacob’s body language - he was toast from second he walked up. Lacking confidence right now. I think he will be ok - but put him in better situations and that wasn’t the one. Swings at 3 balls.

I’m of the mind it’s Getz who needs to take this info and allow Venable to use them correctly.

This - Dominguez is awesome in non save situations and bad in save. Taylor is elite in save and solid in non save. Make the damn change. Come on.

Hell, what a difference 10 minutes make.

Manic Depressive 9th inning

Basically every game management move Venable makes is bad. He's a bad manager.

I agree. Acuna is the better option there

You guys need to watch the post game show right now, Ozzie and Chuck are talking about the same thing with a bunch of Statistics to support it.

There is no way Getz is forcing him to pitch Dominguez in the 9th with those stats I just shared. I refuse to believe it.

Nobody hits Cade Smith well but I'll note that he has modestly reversed platoon splits (but also note that everybody subs out their worst right-handed hitters when he pitches).

Let’s sweep these bastards.

non-save situations. He needs to close.

Non save situations Dominguez has a 0.77 ERA. It is clear as day. Also look at Taylor’s numbers in save situations. He’s unreal. Taylor’s numbers as a closer. 8 save situations 0.87 ERA 1.07 Whip 18K’s 1walk 1 HR. What in Gods name is Will thinking? Do we need a new manager?

Getz definitely controls who has the role of closer and he definitely doesn't care about a pitcher's statistics in save vs. non-save situations (nor should he, IMO). I'll tell you why Seranthony has better numbers in non-save spots: it's because when he's in a non-save situation, it's because it's a carefully selected set of right-handed batters for him to face.

For Grant, it's just sample size more than anything but also we gave him a couple save chances when he was really on a roll. All that being said, obviously it's time to pull the plug on giving Seranthony the 9th inning. I don't really believe in the designated closer unless you've got a clear best pitcher who is strong against both righties and lefties. Grant is close to that but I'd probably just play matchups until Grant strings together a couple good outings.

I didn’t realize he was 0 for his last 24 too. Makes that decision even dumber. Really poor job by Will. I like Will but he has made some mistakes these past few games. He has been pretty good with pinch hitters (and it worked with Grichuk earlier) but you got to know Gonzo just shouldn’t be up there.

A statistical anomaly. Right about now he’s just plain bad.

We need a new manager. Preferably before its too late.

Taylor is just having a bad few games. Prior to that he had let up 4 runs all year. Give him a few days off. We love to quickly turn on guys

Taylor has entered the game in the 9th with a lead twice this year. I dont think theres anything to read from such a small sample size. He can be really good because hes Taylor.

One thing to consider about Bryan Hudson: in 2024, he pitched 63 innings with a sub-2 ERA. So the smoke and mirrors routine has worked for him before.

Teel is not healthy nor will he be. White Sox way.
