06/23 - Sox vs. Guards: Round 2

Featured Replies

I think I'm supposed to do this again?

I originally wasn't going to be able to catch this game as I was going to see the Tides/Bulls with my financial advisor where I was going to have to break the news that I dropped a few bands on the White Sox winning the division a few weeks ago. It has been rained out though so I can continue to monitor firsthand how brilliant/idiotic my bet was.

Lineup below. Teel sits against the lefty. Need Burke to go deep in this one.

Burke is the only Sox starter who has a higher home ERA than road. Fortunately the Guardians aren't a scary team offensively.

I like Burke better with the opener first...........Lets take this one and insure a series win.

Romo ug

Burke was incredible last outing. Feel the momentum.

Id rather try Teel against a lefty than see Romo at all, let him get into a groove. Kyle had only one game back and he's already sitting? Someone said last night he still looked injured, I really hope thats not true.

Burke was dare I say it electric last outing. Guardians offense stinks as you said, lets have another great outing that gets us into 7th.

Makes sense to sit Teel with a day game tomorrow

I do not understand putting Meidroth in an RBI position. He is not good with RISP.

I really like Sam leading off no matter what side the pitcher is throwing. Maybe Will is trying to Kickstart Vargas out this mini slump?

Antonacci is hitting .171 against lefties. He's amazing vs. RHP, but he really should not be leading off against LHP. In an ideal world, he and Meidroth platoon at 2B.

He either sits today or tomorrow and today makes more sense.

He should be locked into the 9th spot when everybody is healthy. He's a good 2nd leadoff guy and overall his production warrants him 9th in a good Sox lineup.

"batting splits are for the entire game when the starter was LH or RH. These splits include any subsequent plate appearances against a reliever regardless of their throwing hand."

So....when an opposing team deploys a LH starter , his split BA goes up to .325 (Baseball Reference.com) That, and the fact that Venable wants some of the young players like Chase, Colson and Sam to face good starting pitchers no matter if they are LH or a RH.

My own opinion is that Chase, Antonacci and Peters are gamers and therefore, I like them in the line-up whenever they are able to play.

Would be a nice night for Burke/Newcomb to team up for another gem, considering the bullpen availability (and opposing starter).

White Sox pitching should take advantage of the Guardians in the next 6 games or for however long they will be without Jose Ramirez, Chase DeLauter, and Angel Martinez. Ramirez has been a thorn in the side of White Sox pitching as all Sox fans know... Guardians line-up looks pretty weak right now. Shut them down and sweep the series.

...so they should pick a fight with their 3B and knock him out?

FYI the section you quoted means his "vs LH starter" split on Baseball Reference includes the games where he didn't start but came in later to face RHRP after the LHSP left. He kills RH relievers to the tune of a 1.092 OPS for the season (19-52 with 8 XBH).

But in his actual ABs vs LH starters specifically, he's 4-20. Against lefty relievers, 3-21.

Agree that he's a gamer regardless, but fine with him not leading off vs. LHSP for now.

Who cares about numbers. We need the gamers to play as much as possible

Lets win tonight and take the series. NBA draft tonight too

You're talking about a 48 PA sample where he could be facing right handed relievers after 2 PAs against a left handed starter. We have no idea how the numbers break down, but what we do know is that in 48 PAs against LHP (in total), he's hitting .171. So clearly, he wasn't hitting against the left handed starters in those games. Keep in mind Will is also hitting him lower in the order to minimize those PAs in games against a LHP. So in that sense, it's working. You want him in there later on in the game to gain the platoon advantage and not have him take a bunch of PAs against pitchers he might struggle against.

You also want to put those gamers in a position to succeed. You think Sam would be hitting the way he is if Venable only played him against LHPs?
