And now after Teel's injury and Braden's ascension all 3 position players are in the lineup and making big contributions as mainstays to the core.Vargas trade looked bad too. I know it can't be helped to judge trades right away but it does take years sometimes before we know for sure how to judge it. Like crying about all those nothing trades turned out to be nothing to this date.
6 hours ago6 hr Gonzo with a double to pad the pirates lead. While he was at bat their color announcer reported that in the offseason near the beginning of the year, Jacob’s Dad encouraged him to step toward the ball to keep his hip in.Apparently his Dad had suggested that often but Gonzo always resisted - this reporter Chuck attributed that change to his breakout.Part of me calls BS.
48 minutes ago48 min I believe Gonzalez will definitely hit, so it’s a great trade for the Pirates. They get immediate help in a pennant race. Jury’s gonna be out for a few years for the Sox. With their upcoming 40 man crunch, I get why they did it. May sting a little from time to time though.

The roster crunch is a real thing, but I still think we should have used Jacob to add a controllable SP to solve that issue.

Gonzalez in this current iteration is power over hit and a 40 runner. Thome’s ceiling is like McGonigle or Weatherholt or something. That’s not a likely outcome, but if we’re talking ceiling, you just don’t know. We’ll know a lot more hopefully by this time next year. Also, he signed underslot, so that money went into signing Prosek. It’s complex.

I know Landon has a better hit tool, but not McGonigle levels at this point. And as I have said before, I like Thome as a prospect. I just don’t like the idea of trading an infielder who has already developed into a legit major league hitter for one who doesn’t have a massively higher ceiling than him. Maybe I just higher on Jacob than most here.
