Sox acquire Brenton Doyle - trade Adams and Carlos Vielma (SS)

This is the type of move you make if you think your team can make a run for the world series. This is the best defender/4th outfielder available and next season isn't happening people. Vielma loss blows and i don't like this overall, but this is a F it, we want a gold glover in the 7-9 inning's and someone who doest hit an 8 wrc+ verse lefties like Peters does.

Why move on from Derek Hill if youre going to acquire someone like him a month later though?

Agree Doyle can run and defend.

I don't get this trade, seems bad. Hopefully Getz speaks to the press to explain his thought process soon, or there's another trade today that ties in.

Thank god the big league season has gone great, or else everyone would focus on how bad the prospects have done outside of a few hitters (also thankfully Bonemer has been great, as he’s the most important hitting prospect before the draftees)

But the major leagues has featured young players getting better which is a big deal.

Also underrated how a player like bonemer becoming a top 30 prospect is pretty rare for the last 25 years of Sox baseball.

Ok that’s fine, he also has the crochet deal which is good value. He makes a lot of deals and stuff is gonna bite at our margins.

If I had a text thread with Getz though I’d tell him to target good players and stop targeting bad ones.

My question is, why does he think a player is worth obtaining that has had two straight bad offensive years at the hitting Mecca known as Coors?

Ultimately, likely going to end up as a nothing for nothing deal. I just don’t think he’s better than the 3 guys he would replace

s%*# I hope they aren’t trading antonacci

Yeah, in the hindsight of Hill this feels like a, oh crap, we need a lefty matchup move. It's fine. If they can unlock his bat it's a good chance he can be a good supersub or match up guy. I haven't followed Hill much since he got moved

I would guess it’s because as fans we will underrate stuff like speed and holding runners .

If we were 10 games up I’d be ok with this.

I loved Brazoban deal and am fine with Castillo. I don't get this trade at all, especially the addition of ANOTHER prospect to the mix? Just bizarre. "Nothing at all" seems like a much better move here, we have plenty of AAAA outfielders.

The Brazoban deal was great. He overpaid for Castillo a bit in that he should’ve gotten back some more cash relief for Castillo’s contract next year outside of Seranthony’s money, but still not the end of the world. But this trade is grade A manure. 💩

Yeah, seems obvious to me. Pretty much everyone else was talking about the trade, but I digress.

???

I don’t like the trade, but I get it. Adams isn’t going to be protected and wouldn’t be in our organization next year. Thought though that Adams plus prospects could get us a better player to help the team. Also, hate when Sox throw in a DSL 16 year old with promise that has backfired on us a couple times: Padres and Red Sox.

Why would you even say that

I don’t understand this thought. Why couldn’t he have been called up to help this year’s team?

I unno. We have all these teams who aren’t full on waiving a white flag. We have a roster crunch, he is meh on defense in RF and pereira is meh cf.

I could see it with how things have gone

Hagen Smith and MCDougal are ahead of Adams. Going to need clear 40 man spots for all 3.

I think Getz found out what the league thinks of Mason Adams while trying to make other deals. And since he would likely be out of the organization anyway next year because of a roster crunch, might as well get something for him.

Vielma is the key here. No clue how likely he is to become something eventually.

Couldn’t have any team had him this year in the rule 5? Obviously no one thinks highly of him.

He was set to miss a lot of time and would have qualified for Rule 5 status again this year (if there even is one)

Doyle has a Trout like body but not sure he has the speed he used to, doesn't take walks and only hit 1 HR this year in over 129 PA.

1 good year in 2024 then hasn't adjusted to how he's been pitched. He's a project.

Limited by an oblique injury.

He certainly will do better than the 8 wRC+ that Peters has put up against LHP this year.

There goes my dream of them trading for Robert, mostly cause it'd be funny.

He was never a high enough ceiling guy to hold a 40 man roster spot for until the 60 day opened up.

Also, Drew Thorpe is coming off the 60DL very soon

I wonder if we can include him in a package for a starter with a fastball
