Good point. I remember him. He met his Waterloo in Kanny, IIRC. Did he also get a large bonus when he signed with Sox? The question is, then, will Vielma's trajectory resemble that of Bailey or Tatis? Or somewhere in between. We'll see.

There is zero reason to think this dude is suddenly Tatis. Let’s wait until he does something in Kanny before we worry about him. Not suggesting he can’t be a dude or that this was a good trade (remains mind boggling to me as a mid season addition), but most of the kids that hit in the DSL end up being big nothings.

Kid just turned 17. There are like 50 other 17-year-olds with similar stats. Better than OPSing .500 like a typical Sox international signing, but the projection is that he's small, slow, doesn't hit for power, probably won't last in the infield. Fixating on a low tier teenage prospect seems, I dunno, pointless. Some Rockies blogger is calling him the 48th best prospect in their system.

I'm more annoyed about giving up Mason Adams. You could argue that Mason Adams is already a better player than Doyle is.

The problem really is that Getz traded for waiver wire talents. Grab it (which he has); don't make serious trades for it.
Sox need to get something out of Thorpe and Sandlin.

He’d raised his stock so much, in fact, that he was used in the deal that brought outfielder Brenton Doyle to Chicago. Since changing jerseys, the 17-year-old has kicked it up a few notches. He went 14-for-31 with the Rockies, including three doubles and more walks (seven) than strikeouts (six). You can find evaluators who believe Vielma’s hit tool will grade as a 55 in the big leagues. Those premonitions will have to come true—and he’ll have to get stronger—given that his other tools are middling.

Should have went with Adell instead of Doyle considering the cost.

It's trades like these that make me question whether Getz is actually a good GM. It was an awful, questionable trade and everybody saw that from the start (well, except for all the White Sox insiders "shockingly"). Doyle was one of the worst hitter in the league while playing in Coors. He's always been bad outside of Coors. What exactly was the motivation for acquiring him? We really wanted a no-bat defensive outfield that badly?

There's a certain irony to using "don't trust Coors production" against Doyle...and then citing Adell's stats immediately after they've been inflated by playing there.

Adell went 6-14 at Coors and is otherwise 10-48 (.208 average) as a Guardian.

Go back a tick further and he was hitting .167 before getting to play another one of the worst teams in baseball where he got 3 hits against a 7 ERA LHP in SF.

That one game + a Coors series accounts for 9 of his 16 hits (and 2 of his 4 HR) for Cleveland. He's 7-42 since the deadline when not playing the NL's bottom 2 clubs.

He doesn't play CF. He would be worse than Braden on defense (and prior to his Coors trip, offense too). He's a worse platoon corner bat than Grichuk.

I would have been content to keep Adams and Pereira personally, but of all the reasons to dislike the Doyle trade, not getting Adell instead is not one that makes sense to me.

Pereira is hurt again - not his fault necessarily (hit on the hand), but still. I'm not going to bemoan the loss of a guy who can't stay healthy and has only been able to play in 38 of 130 games.
