White Sox DFA Austin Hays

so who do we have if an OF gets hurt? Junior Perez?

DFA’ing two outfielders, including a 25 year old?

It’s fairly obvious at this point that Getz ran out of time at the trade deadline and mismanaged the roster. I don’t think this can be denied at this point. He was obviously trying to eliminate the roster crunch by moving Pereira/Hays in some deals before the deadline but failed to do so.

Giving up on a career .282/.340/.477 against LHP you sunk $6M into for nothing when you struggle against LHP is head scratching to say the least.

Have you already forgotten the sensational Rikuu Nishida? 😄

The problem is more the roster slots, versus the players.

Getz off-season FA MLB additions so far:

Hays - DFA'ed
Seranthony - Given away as if he was worth zero
Reese McGuire - Released
Fedde - (-.3 fWAR with a 5.4 FIP)

Murakami - Obviously great, but a reminder that he fell into their laps
Kay - .8 fWAR with a 4.8 FIP (I'd call this a solid signing even though I'm not a fan of Kay's. He's definitely covered some innings and given them a chance to win games.)

Our World Class GM that has "earned" the benefit of the doubt!

And we went into that offseason without expecting anything better than a 3rd place finish… at best.

I sure hope his next offseason is better.

All depends on when they agree to a new CBA and set parameters. Plus what JR allows him to do.

Yea, this coming offseason is likely going to be hell and will for sure include a ton of “if’s”

Sox opening day OF, Hays LF, Acuna CF, Pereira RF.

Hays only played 12 games and Pereira 27, if they stayed healthy Pereira would have moved to CF and Braden in RF.........Could of, should of, might of.

Newcomb should be in there too though, no?

It seems every time there are labor issues, thr White Sox go into it looking good, and come out of it disappointing. I hope this time it's different

I know he classified it as "off-season" but feel like someone like Grichuk should also be mentioned, given he plays the outfield and has been a solid contributor to this team. But he was signed in early May.

Except for all the free agents who worked out spectacularly, every single free agent signing was a failure.

what about Peters?

Reinsdorf said it'd only take a year to be competitive again and it took two, so Getz gets an F-.

Doesn't fit the narrative

You also can't count Murakami because he fell into their laps. He literally flew over from Japan and played "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel on his boombox until Getz finally gave in and signed him.

Yes, looks like he missed him. That was obviously a good signing.

So what do you think happened with these two DFA’s? I saw you laughed at my previous post. What is your explanation?

He stated FA signings, Peters was a trade.

It isn't head-scratching, he never plays and isn't good when he does, on either side of the ball. You want to give him at-bats or reps in the outfield over Montgomery or Antonacci? Or have two roster spots taken up by a mediocre platoon DH tandem?

At least give Hays the Josh Rojas treatment, people. It was a useless signing, the outfield just isn't the worst in MLB like we all thought it would be. What do you bet he remains in the org because no team wants to pay him his salary + buyout, and he likely has no interest in a release because he'd just be playing minor league ball somewhere else? DFAing this guy makes total sense, it makes less sense to me to do it with Pereira.

What a poor use of the salary space that trading Robert freed up.
