Now on 9/1, they'd like a RH, 28th man, bench bat. Possibly while Ryan Galanie returns to AAA from injury and gets a couple of games under his belt. I wouldn't see targeting that guy at the TDL that you could really just grab off of waivers a month later.

I wouldn’t call that the 28th man. And yes, they should have known at the deadline that hitting LHP with their outfield was a huge issue. I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s batting leadoff against LHP next time they face one (which doesn’t look for a long time actually)
Yesterday at 05:16 PM1 day FWIW next scheduled LHP is 9/11 vs Cardinals. Pham leading off would be the worse thing to ever happen on that day (yes, sarcasm)

Would also say that no one outside the organization has any clue what they’re doing. A lot of the well known reporters thought for sure Thorpe would be up this week. He might replace Braden in the starting lineup but I doubt it. They want him to get those at bats I'd imagine for his growth. Also then your outfield defense is pretty horrible. Pham is likely just to give them another right handed hitter option off the bench to play matchup games with in later innings.

Yesterday at 07:36 PM1 day I don't have a confident guess about how they'll use Pham. I tend to think they took him mainly as depth, but you don't really know what you've got if you don't play him. There are certainly times when Venable would probably like to use another pinch hitter when he's already run out, so that's an option. It could very well be the case that we never see Doyle pinch hit again which, given recent results, isn't the worst thing.

He was starting regularly for them in AAA through this last Sunday. Call it questionable if you want. You don't have to embellish by pretending other teams couldn't dump him fast enough. They signed him to play for them with whatever reputation we perceive him to have. In some cases, he lasted months of the season with those teams. But stuck behind Derek Hill

I’d prefer someone who wasn’t 20% below league average against LHP last year and may ultimately not be an upgrade over what we currently have. Is it our biggest problem at the moment? Obviously not, but it’s a bit more frustrating because we had other better solutions in house throughout the season.

Tommy Pham has provided postseason run offense before, hopefully he shows up and mashes in his low amount of chances and helps relieve some of the problems with LHP

I do like fostering the competition and perhaps what they see coaching wise in a small sample size as a relatively fresh vet in good matchups. Edited 19 hours ago19 hr by chitownsportsfan
