August 31Aug 31 James is reporting McDougal is with the team in Houston. It looks like they are content with letting Thorpe stay in AAA all year. This is quite a confusing day. Especially since the move to the pen for McDougal has not been good.
August 31Aug 31 If I remember correctly, his only appearance was like 3 walks and a hit batter.....or did I miss any other appearances?
August 31Aug 31 Thorpe was scratched from his scheduled start yesterday. This makes no sense unless he is hurt. I think I would rather see Sandlin anyway.
August 31Aug 31 yeah if Thorpe is hurt again, well let's just hope it's the usual post surgery stuff and not worseedit: nope, not hurt. looks like the Sox want him to face a team that doesn't have big bats (Cleveland?) Edited August 31Aug 31 by joejoesox
August 31Aug 31 Sox have next Monday off, then face the Pirates at home on Tues. The following series he would be ready to pitch is vs CLE, this is assuming he would make two consecutive starts in AAA if they skip the pirates series

August 31Aug 31 Why not? McDougal's last performance was inspiring! What the 'pen needs more than anything, is another guy with no command over the strike zone.

Maybe there’s something going on that we’re not totally privy to - like perhaps his recovery is moving along fine but they feel a need to baby him.I don’t fucking get it.

August 31Aug 31 Or they don't want to put him into pennant race pressure coming off TBS...risking another injury with him trying to overthrow a FB to juice it up to 93-94.Last four Septembers, wouldn't matter as games were just for pride/avoidong loss records. Edited August 31Aug 31 by caulfield12

September 1Sep 1 McDougal’s line in Charlotte since being sent back down:4.2 IP | 3 K | 6 BB | 10 H | 11 R | 7 R | 3 HR | 13.50 ERA | 14.44 FIPDefinitely the guy who should get the call to solve our pitching woes!
September 1Sep 1 So the extra two men to start September will be McDougal & Pham.Tommy will require some 40 man roster move to add him. Junior Perez seems most likely to get DFAed to add him. Probably why they traded for Cave.At some point, Teel will be added to the 26 man roster. With the addition of Pham, it seems like they will only go with two catchers. Romo should have options and sending him down would allow you to hold onto to more depth, but it just feels like the Sox will end up keeping him over Rogers. This would also open up a 40 man spot.On the pitching side, Martin should be back very soon. The most obvious offsetting move is sending Tyler Davis back down to AAA moving Urquidy to the bullpen. And not too far behind Martin is Chris Murphy, who was very good with the Sox prior to his injury. Schweitzer, Urquidy, & Richards are the three most likely to be replaced and in that order. I guess McDougal is also an option to be sent down here as he might just be a placeholder until the injured pitchers come back. Not sure the status of Brazoban and if/when he’ll be back, but that feels like a late September addition base case scenario. McDougal almost certainly goes if/when he comes back. That leaves Thorpe and Sandlin as other guys who should probably factor into the mix somehow. At minimum, Drew will need to end his rehab assignment at some point. My guess is Rogers gets DFAed eventually to open up that spot. I also think Sandlin would be an improvement over several guys right now, including Urqudiy. Edited September 1Sep 1 by Chicago White Sox

We all know he had a pretty serious injury history beforelast year and he stayed pretty injury free in 25. We were also told that there was a mechanical change made before the season that was made in his wind up which might have taken away from his deception. He definitely lost the ability to throw strikes and get ahead this year. Is that fixable? Was last year a fluke? Was this year the fluke? Who knows.
