I would like to think that Castillo is headed for the bullpen. Maybe Hagen Smith will become the new starting pitcher. I'd rather have Smith starting than Castillo.

Venable was saying how amazing he looked after the first two batters. He’s definitely not getting removed.

Luckily we don't have to do any more then that to win the division.

Some times no matter what you do a team has your number.

Houston simply owns the Sox, end of story. They've done it for years even when the Sox had a good team (remember October 2021?)

Bottom line is this, the next three series are winnable. Minnesota, Pittsburgh and St. Louis are mediocre. The Sox should go 6-3 against them. (Doesn't mean they will of course if this team is out of gas but they should)

Do that and you'll go into Cleveland still in the divisional lead and have a little cushion.

Houston I think has to play Philadelphia and Tampa Bay so they should lose a game or two themselves.

The Sox have lost four of five after a four game win streak, they need to get their heads out of their asses and play well otherwise they are going to choke this away again like the franchise did in 2003 and 2012.

It's totally up to them.

Castillo absolutely blows, even Getz has to see this.

And what broke the game open again today? ANOTHER clutch hit with men on base with two out in the inning.

As well you should be. They simply can't score runs and the pitching is running on fumes.

*Castillo got just five swinging strikes on 78 pitches, and only 12 called strikes. Few pitches made it home.

Doyle still has a chance, considering Getz traded away exactly what he was trying to obtain with the Castillo acquisition — a competent starter. Meanwhile, Doyle looks like the same guy he was with the Rockies — a fourth outfielder. He could look like a non-tender candidate for the Sox in the offseason, not that I don’t think they will bring him back anyways. At this point, they will have to try to get something out of him.

Both trades were just odd deals to do at the deadline. You want guys to help you now, not maybe next year. Maybe they do get turned around next year, but if they blow up the ship in the playoffs, is it worth it?

Definitely not, and I would bet Getz has learned from his mistake. He was trying to get too cute for his own good — acquire guys that he thought/hoped they could turn around for this year and then have them for additional year(s). Getz got greedy.

A better performing rental pitcher would have been cheaper and more successful than Castillo. I think the additional control on any player the Sox acquired was all Getz’s idea.

Didn't want to deal with the lockout uncertainty...so took almost all of the difficult decisions out of his hands already.

Who decided to stop throwing the change up: Castillo, the catcher or the bench.? Whoever it was, it was a mistake.

That would make sense if they were a playoff team last year or a team full of veterans.

We'd feel a lot better if they were 6-10 games out. "Hey at least we didn't lose 100 this year."

For me, it's more that after the last 3 years, and really outside of 2021, practically the better part of everything post 2008, this fanbase deserves a run of legitimate playoff competing teams.

An 11 year playoff drought and no playoff series wins since 2005. Hell, remove '05 from the equation, the Sox haven't won a playoff series since 1917.

To say this fanbase is long overdue for a run of success would be the understatement of the millennium.
