I'd like to see Sandlin get a shot this series at some point. Replicating Taylor's 4 inning beauty against the same team a couple days later seems doubtful.

Love me some Sandlin, but lefties have an .821 OPS against him. He dominates righties but gets hit hard by lefties. I'd be nervous using him against the Guardians for multiple innings.

What about Fedde

Kay/Burke/Newcomb/Fedde

That's the combo I'd look for tomorrow.

If the Sox can win Game 2 without burning Hagen and Taylor, that's a massive advantage heading into game 3.

Fedde has reverse splits. .699 OPS against lefties, .808 against righties.

Give Fedde some burn!

Kay(2)-Burke(5)-Hagen(1)-Taylor(1)

That would be pretty ideal

Fedde coming in and ripping 99 for an inning would also be okay.

I think the play is to rest Hagen and Taylor so they can run back the Game 1 plan on Game 3. Fedde and Newcomb can fill those roles in Game 2.

It's funny how a happy, young team will mean everything to everyone.

highly doubt it. they clearly have zero trust in him right now. he's the mopup guy at this point.

He had one bad start. Will has said they are being uber cautious with him due to the calf injury.

One of the journalists criticizing the Red Sox the other day said that the Red Sox are no longer on the cutting edge of analytics due to overlooking things like happiness and chemistry. Believe it or not, these intangibles are starting to make their way into the study of advanced analytics. White Sox, Rays, and Brewers have been in the cutting edge of this stuff in recent years when it comes to looking at these intangibles through metrics and analytics.

There was some snarking when Sox hired a "mental performance" coach, but there seems to be something there. Think the guy they hired was poached from the Mariners, whose vibes have gone in the opposite direction.

Getz also cites makeup and chemistry for almost all of his player acquisitions now, and you of course need a manager capable of reading the room and building a culture.

Many cling to the Zeno's Paradox myth of onboarding statistical analysis. Like, The Sox are 15 years behind. By the time they catch up, everybody will have moved onto to the next frontier. That is, unless you hire their guys, quickly put the resources in place without having to make the years of mistakes and adjustments the early adopters had to, then pivoting to embracing the cutting-edge stuff simultaneously.

It's easy to have fun when you are winning. Could you imagine this -- "we just lost our 99th game, we need more fucking dancing in the dugout. We're hiring a choreographer." would you believe a truce when we lost 120 games?

I know they used extensive screeners before they bring anybody into the organization. Both them and the Rays use a metric system for personality and character traits. There are some really cool tools that these teams are now using which can essentially construct the perfect clubhouse by predicting player groupings which can predict how players will interact in a clubhouse. It's easy for some of us to roll our eyes but then you look at the Red Sox or even Cubs and it's pretty obvious that there is some unrest in the clubhouse.

If we win this game I feel like this team will have nearly no pressure in Game 3 at home and will come out playing hot out of the gate, if we lose Game 2 it puts a lot more pressure on us to keep home field advantage and not have to go back to CLE

Can you imagine the pressure on Cleveland coming into the Rate down 2 games?

Rod is a lifelong Cubs fan. The Pope is converting everyone.

Sox fan went to the White House while Rod went to the Big House.

winning is fun and fun is winning. I know which one I'd try and do first.

Off topic but how important is Teel to our little run?

Oh my god. It's night and day. He's a pitchers best friend back there with the way he challenges and also calls a game.

If Kay can get us through 3 then burke can handle 6. And if we need an inning from someone you can use whoever you want depending on the score out of fedde, Taylor, hicks or newcomb.

Just get up 4 or 5 midway through the game.
