Milkman delivers
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) If the White Sox played in the AAAA league known as the NL. I doubt he puts up those numbers in the AL. Uh, first of all, I was making a joke. Those stats don't exist. They might as well exist, though, because there are stats for everything these days. Back in my day, we had average, homers, and RBI Second, Vizquel hasn't played in the AL and done well?
GoodAsGould
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) He could be a very intriguing DH. I think Soriano is someone the Sox could look at this offseason as well. He's a great athlete and is a heck of a player. Definately don't want him in the field though. He is actually not as bad in the field as a lot of people on this board think he is. Most of his errors come on the easy stuff Jose Valentin like. southsideirish71
This thread has me grinning from ear to ear. Vizquel is a difference maker. He is a sparkplug that makes things happen. The trickle down affect is amazing. Look at how Gooch is when he gets a chance to swing the bat. You put Vizquel at the 2 hole. He will flourish there and is faster than gooch. You have Gooch hit lower in the order. He gets a chance to swing the bat. I think he will tear the ball off the cover there. You are changing the lineup in two places with one move. He is a class guy with lots of playoff experience. GET HIM KW.

AngelasDaddy0427
I still say the Sox should go after Lugo long before they think about Vizquel.... If we could dump him after this year i'd say go for it but that third year just isn't worth it...
Dick Allen
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:26 PM) Harold Reynolds has some massive connections in baseball. His brother is a big time agent, and I think Reynolds would have a pretty good feel for what's going on. If he has all these connections its puzzling why so many stupid things come out of his mouth week after week year after year. Maybe he sits too close to Gammons. Get Vizquel, he is the type of bat we need. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The difference between Jose and Lugo is that lugo is actually able to make contact with the ball on a consistant basis, get on base at a decent rate, and doesn't strike out near as much... But other then all that he's just like Jose Valentin... Yes his defense leaves something to be desired but at least he won't be burdening us in 2 years with declining numbers... I am sure the pitchers wont flinch when the ball is hit to short also. I am probably one of the biggest proponents of upping the offense. But Vizquel at least plays good defense with a consistant bat. Lugo would be kicking the ball all over the place giving teams like the bosox a few extra outs. I said to myself if I come back & say .. you're insane .. you could then go back & use real stats in favor of Vizquel over Uribe. So I just decided to respond to cast doubt in any NL stat you use. To expand on this compare the Sag's NPERA lists for 05-04 in AL & 05-04 in NL. There is great improvement in the AL & a significant decline in the NL. I blame Ozzie for Uribe underperforming. He put up the great numbers warranting the big contract hitting #2 in the lineup. Yet for whatever reason Ozzie choose to hit him 9th where he never accomplished much. I believe strongly that order in lineup can greatly impact a guy's numbers. Once a guy overachieves in a spot it's best to leave him there. I don't know how to respond to this because I have no clue what half the stats you bring up mean. All I know is that Vizquel had success in the AL for years (last year included), and I doubt he's lost much, if anything, in the short period of time since then. Vizquel fits this team much better than a free-swinging, HR-or-bust, defensive specialist in Uribe.

Vizquel was a perfect fit in the off-season. But he did spurn the White Sox then & he would not come cheap now. The rest of the stats I gave on Uribe were to show that despite his poor avg he still is on pace to exceed his 2004 RBI totals. Yes is R's are down but what do you expect from a guy moved from #2 to #9? I would not trade Uribe's 2004 Aug & Sep for Vizquel's & that's something you have to think of when sitting him down. Defensively I think Vizquel will not disrupt the chemistry of the middle IF. But he won't have the gun to get the outs Uribe does either. Insignificant yes, but he is f'n pissed! On wgn they were showing the soundbytes of ozzie and he said something about how he don't care about the home runs cuz everybody gets hit, he said he just hates the walks. VAfan
Vizquel (and Schmidt) for Uribe (and Contreras) is still the best deal for the Sox, and one SF should make if they also got Anderson, who they could bring up now. If it is just Vizquel, it is still a good deal, but it would almost certainly include Uribe because the Sox aren't going to pay a utility guy $3 million/year. Vizquel isn't an offensive savior, but he will make a lot fewer outs than Uribe and help extend innings. Plus Ozuna makes for an obvious platoon when lefties pitch. Guest JimH
last year, harold reynolds told us with near certainty that we would acquire carlos beltran. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I believe you are thinking of the Cubs. Reynolds did talk of the Cubs getting Beltran ... several times ... but not the White Sox. Boras represents Beltran and we all know the Sox avoid Boras clients.
