It does make some sense from the Sox point of view.

The real question would be the money and whether ownership felt they could invest in another cheaper player next year and get similar production.

This makes sense for Kenny. Money coming off the books. There has already been reported interest. He is having a down year, but is a near 300 hitter over the last few years. Speed, defense, Had 47 doubles last year. He is just entering his prime and is under control for through his prime. Hope this is true. If anything, this is something that makes us better for a long time not just this year.

Guys who play excellent defense and are high average hitters playing CF are not exactly a dime a dozen around here.

Wise has been the last guy off of the bench since Kotsay got here. Wise would be gone in a heartbeat.

Wishful thinking IMO.

Just like the Peavy deal and Pods performing at a very high level, I'll believe it when I see it.

Maybe the Sox can come to a compromise and let Wise go but hang a few Kim Jong Il-style banners up around the park so we never forget he's watching us.

Where would Rios play? RF = Quentin, CF = Pods, RF = Dye

It's not the Whitesox.

Well thats the question, where would Rios be slotted?

Would they want to bring back Pods in CF and have Rios replacing Dye? Would they have Rios in CF?

Rios value as a CF is obviously a lot more.

Fields got demoted even though he hit a grand slam in the perfect game. Just send Wise down if they get Rios.

Rios would play CF... he is better than Pods.

Wise doesn't have options left. He'd have to pass through waivers and we're terrified of that. That's why we sent Anderson down and kept Wise, Remember?

This would not be a move for this year. Besides, even if it were, the guys and Thome are getting plenty of rest for Rios to play nearly everyday.

Rios would move to CF. Pods would probably move to LF, Q to DH or Dye to DH. Remember, this is move not for just this year. But for the next few. Kenny is trying to build a consistant contender. Not just a one year flash in the pan.....

Defensively, but that's it. Pods has a better AVG and OBP, leads off, and has been key to our teams turnaround this year.

If you had to pick a position for Rios, it has to be center field.

You are just trying to convince yourself it's us and it's not :)

One hits 300 this year and is over 30 and was sitting at home at the beginning of this year. The other has hit near 300 with a ton of doubles and plays great D in CF for the last few years and is 28. Please don't tell me that you dont think that Pods is better than Rios.

If we can get Rios like this, next year becomes ah-maz-ing.

Here's the actual schedule in case anyone is curious.

The Blue Jays, it appears, have three options, and must make a decision by Tuesday, because the waiver period will roll through the weekend:

• They could work out a trade with the team that claimed Rios.

• They could pull him back from waivers, and keep him for themselves the rest of this season.

• They could simply allow the team that claimed him to take him, at no cost.

Undoubtedly, the decision to place a waiver claim on Rios will stun rival executives, at a time when the prices on free-agent outfielders have plummeted. The most lucrative deals for corner outfielders in the most recent offseason -- other than Manny Ramirez -- were for Raul Ibanez, for three years and $31.5 million, and Milton Bradley, for three years and $30 million.

"That's an incredible opportunity for the Blue Jays to get out from underneath that contract," said one team official.

I was talking about the Sox choices for next year in terms of who to bring back if Rios was on the team.

Dye, Pods, Thome one of them would have to be gone unless they were willing to take a significantly decreased role.

I think this is the first time I've actually read comments on MLBTradeRumors.com and dear sweet God, those people have no idea how baseball transactions work.

Either Dye or Thome is here as the DH. You cannot put Dye out in RF anymore. His defense is terrible. You have a pitching staff build for pitch to contact. You cannot have people in the OF who cant catch the ball and turn singles into doubles on a regular basis.

The bleacher report is the worst place you could ever go to find information on something. This particular blog says "sources" have said the Giants got him, but nothing is listed. As usual. Every year that site is responsible for playstation trade ideas and ridiculously bad rumors across every major sport. You don't even need a 3rd grade education or a passable understanding of the English language to write garbage for that s***hole.

Rios has a career .285 average, batted over .300 once. Oh btw, Pods costs about 1/24th of Rios.

I'd love to see what Coop could do with Rios. Put him in this ballpark and watch him take off.

Please don't tell me you're judging a guy who's averages the last 3 years before this one were .302, .297, and .291 based on the fact that he didn't hit .300 in those last 2 seasons. (Not even bothering to go to the OPS or OPS+ levels here either).

Rios would fit in nicely. For the rest of this season Ozzie could work Rios in by DHing Quentin on some days and have Pods LF, Rios CF, and Dye RF. Other days he can rest Pods and have an OF of Quentin, Rios and Dye. Still other days he can sit Dye or DH him and have Q in LF, Pods in CF and Rios in RF. Still other days Rios can sit on the bench in place of Wise and come in as a defensive replacement when Buerhle has another perfect game going.

Coop will teach Rios a cutter.
