Was just watching Addison Reed closing for the Diamondbacks and it got me thinking about watching players the Sox traded away.

 

Do you:

 

a) Hope they do as badly as possible so the Sox win the trade

 

b) Hope they do ok: because if you keep trading away guys who do terribly it'll make GMs wary of trading with the Sox (and also I guess it's not nice to see someone sad or whatever), but if he does too well you'll be annoyed at losing him

 

c) Hope they do as well as possible, presuming you liked them as a White Sox

 

d) do not give one solitary s***

 

Probably b) for me.

I usually hope they succeed.

It depends if I loved them as White Sox I want them to do well. I want Buehrle, AJP to succeed. I don't care about Matt Thornton. I feel like I want Reed to fail cause it's gonna kill me if he gets 45 saves. He was pretty good IMO.

C, and it depends who they are. I hope Addison Reed does great. I hope Hector Santiago does great. I hope Nick Swisher fails miserably. I couldn't care less what Matt Thornton does. I couldn't care less what Jake Peavy does. Examples like that.

Basically hope they succeed outside of like Swisher. Don't care for some like Teahen.

Sometimes it depends on who was involved in the trade, or how much the player signed for on another team. Since most of the latest trades have been good ones for the Sox, it's easier to wish the former Sox players to do well. I'll always like players like Buehrle and AJ, and even though they might be overpaid now I still hope they do well...for them, not necessarily for their new teams.

 

I'd like to see Reed and Santiago do well. Both are good young players, but the return on both guys looked pretty good for the Sox. If a guy like Keppinger gets traded, I wouldn't really care how well he's do with another team.

I know a certain someone is quite concerned with how well Rios does for the Rangers, right?

 

And once Dunn's off the roster, I'm surely there will be a lot of comments if he starts playing more like his Reds' days with another team.

 

Then there's those guys like McCarthy, Hudson and Gio Gonzalez who you kind of cringe when they do well, but you're simultaneously proud that they were produced by our system at least.

Mark and AJ, yeah, I hope they do well. Most of the others, not as much.

I like to see Mark do well because of what he meant to the franchise and because the door seems to be open for him to return.

 

I like to see Brandon do well because of what he went through with that injury and because he's hilarious.

 

Don't care one way or the other about the rest.

I want them to succeed except when playing the white sox for the most part...because "teams traded for guys from the White Sox who went on to help them a lot" seems like the reputation I want us to have. It may not help a ton in trade talks, but the reverse seems like a rep we don't want. For example, do we think the Yankees and Mariners really are going to trade talented youngsters again? One blew out the shoulder, the other was on steroids.

If Buehrle is on, I'll watch. For guys like Rios and Peavy and Quentin, I immediately forgot they were here as soon as they were gone. Really, Buehrle is the only former Sox that I care to watch and root for future success.

 

As far as trades, as long as the players coming back to the Sox do well, I don't care about the ones traded that do well. It's good for the Sox if both sides get value.

I'm in this boat as well....certain player...especially Mark YES! He'll always be a Sox! As for Reed...I'm kind of "meh"...but I did cringe and here a collective groan when he gave up that 2-run bomb to Posey.

Among the worst Sox trades were the ones involving Aparicio (twice) and Callison. I always pulled for them both.

Depends on the player for me too. I'll root for Mark Buehrle no matter where he goes. Most guys, meh, who cares. Others, I hope they fail.

I'll cheer for Buerhle every time. He will return to finish his career with us. I just have a hunch I'll cheer for AJ and Uribe as well. Pretty much anybody who was part of I the '05 squad. And that does include BMac

 

It will be good for the organization if Reed and Santiago succeed because most GMs can recognize that from afar. I also hope Eaton and Davidson rock the house for us!!!!

Our pitching staff has been so good for so long I've taken it for granted. I haven't really cared whether or not Bmac, hudson, or santiago do good. Hopefully I won't have to, but in general I hope the players that leave here do well, especially 2005 players. Uribe was my favorite, with his outlaw move of charging slow rollers with a backhand.

 

Currently, it looks like Dunn and Viciedo will be leaving next, and I'll rooting for them, even though it won't be sad to see them go. fingers still crossed for Viciedo.

I think Addison has the best chance to succeed especially if he stays healthy, keeps developing his slider and his failures at his young age should mature him as a pitcher quickly.

I liked Santiago but realistically I don't think he sticks as more than a spot started,long reliever.Kid has great stuff but sometimes he becomes a mental midget.

That's if they don't trade DeAza while the getting is good. For all we know, Viciedo is back in LF by June/July

The only player I really was rooted against was Daniel Hudson. It was absolutely nothing personal against him either. No matter what subject a thread was about, somehow there managed to be a post complaining about that trade, so I just hoped he would fail so people would shut up.

Two TJ surgeries are against him but not really his fault other than not changing his approach.

I would not be surprised if Reed does well. Most of the better hitters are in the AL. It's the second year that will be revealing.

 

 

Hector Santiago gave up 4 runs in 5 IP in his first Angels' start and took the loss.

 

Alex Rios is off to a very good start as well.

Watching Reed now. Leadoff base hit to CarGo. Walks Tulo. 1st and 3rd no outs.
