Sox Draft Carlos Rodon> Draft Day Discussion Thread

It's still sinking in, just best case scenario. This is going to be an incredibly interesting draft to revisit in 5 years.

We might be saying "what if" if Kolek becomes an ace, but at least they can't be accused of passing on him.

All of the TUC posts in the last week were wasted hot air in the end. Nola probably ends up 7-12 where everyone was projecting him for the last couple of months.

Wonder if they have a shot at Finnegan at 44 with all the shoulder concerns?

That might cause him to want to take the guaranteed money, rather than risk losing even more if his shoulder goes.

I was just gonna type that. Cheers to all of us that were on it!

BAMMMM!!!!

Lol. The Mariners aren't even announcing him as a catcher. I'd give him every chance to stick their.

Luke Weaver please.

Chicago White Sox – $5,721,500...........Rodon should sign for slot with the promise like Sale to be called up this year for arbitration clock to start should make Sox and Bor-ASS happy.

I wouldn't have been overly disappointed with Nola. I'm just excited we got the guy that might be the most talented in the draft.

I think they feel they have their catcher for the next 6+ years

Would love it if we have financial flexibility. The next few picks could be pretty telling.

As a NC State alum and someone living in the Raleigh area who has watched Rodon pitch dozens of times live, I just can't believe we drafted him. Unreal to me.

His game against Cuba at the Durham Bulls park was amazing.

This is a case of Rodon being overanalyzed after a lukewarm year. He is that good!

Congrats everyone!

I think we are ahead of what everyone expected.. Our pitching rotation could be awesome in 3 years with Sale-Rodon-Quintana-Danish... Oh man!

Too bad Erik Johnson has fallen off the face of the earth, but we also can take a Haren/T.Hudson/Feldman/Beckett/Hughes/Kazmir/J.Johnson type for 1-3 years to fill in the back-end now.

The second or third tier after Scherzer/Lester/Shields....then Masterson would be similar to Garza/Santana/Jimenez, although younger.

Gillaspie falls to 44. Lightning strikes twice

Marty Warren, who pitched in the White Sox system in 1985-86 and was an eighth-round pick in '85, is the father of Rodon's girlfriend

That's pretty cool

THIS is why we rooted against the team down the stretch, to just have a shot at this type of talent. Amazing.

Yep, exactly. All those people questioning our fandom and being so visirol about us rooting for the Sox to lose now get to bathe in the reward of having Carlos Rodon on this team. We were sitting at like pick #11 before myself and others decided to bite the bullet and root for Sox losses. Now let's see who goes #11 to Toronto and ask everyone if they would trade Carlos Rodon for that person. The answer is going to be f*** NO.

Best pick in the 1st round in my opinion goes to the Sox. Not a question.

Solid pick for the Phillies.

Nola is a bit smallish, that had to be one of the concerns. Aaron's stuff isn't exactly comparable to Peavy. He's not a Cy Young type of arm, but probably better than Leake.

Hoffman for sure to the Blue Jays at 11 still?

Man, Schwarber looks like he's gonna be a really fat dude whenever he stops playing baseball.

Overdraft by the Cubs . . . I'll put that date summer of 2017.

As Yogi Berra said, "There is nothing like seeing a player with your own eyes and ears." Thanks for sharing, cuz you have seen more of Rodon than most scouts.

Be careful what you wish for if Rodon ends up with TJ and Hoffman's coming back at #11 in 2016 and mowing down hitters and looking like Justin Verlander.

Time will tell.

Phillies got a great pick

So, coming off a near 100 loss season I think this is pretty much best case scenario. With guys like Rodon, Sale, Abreu, Garcia, Q, etc signed long term, we got a real chance to have a long period of sustained success.

VITRIOL/IC?

I'm rarely, if ever, going to be disappointed with taking BPA and the possible best talent in the draft.

I'm super uncomfortable with the board being so over the moon goofy over a Sox draft pick, very unsettling. Somebody freak out and call for KW's head for old time's sake!

That was great boys. I feel outstanding.

I'm really happy. Now we need to sign a FA pitcher in the offseason.
