a good reference and analogy, I pick 3b b/c I wasn't sure if it was his range or

the range of the position that was causing him the problems. 3b like 1b doesn't

need the range of a ss or 2b. I wasn't sure if he was capable of handling the

outfield positions.

as many have stated he was / is a raw product and is now coming into his own. I take

that with his offensive numbers as well. it like the ole cliché, he is a blank paper with

lots of talent.

As I said in the other thread, don't worry about his defense.

i am not worrying but conversing. as i wrote in a post that

others said about his defense and i will accept it. just plain

simple conversation on what i was looking at.

Range isn't the problem.

It's a combination of his hands, and his arm is probably MLB average or a notch above, but it's not his best tool....if he had the arm of a Valentin, Uribe or Alexei, a lot of his mishandled/misplayed balls could still be converted into outs.

I read somewhere that a decent amount of his errors are on throws where his feet aren't set, so that would be mechanics wouldn't it ?

Yes, and getting rid of some bad habits he developed playing in high school and junior college...where he could get away with not planting his feet firmly or making unorthodox/athletic/showy plays that nabbed the runner by a step or two at that level but don't work against faster runners in the pros.

by all accounts, he should have at least 2 yrs of continue reps working in

the minors to correct those habit.

i have been thinking thou. what happens if his hitting becomes so good, would the

sox forget about that extra yr and have him come up in 2016???

Yeah, when Anderson's bat is MLB ready the Sox will find a spot for him somewhere. The Sox may have to work with Anderson as he goes through defensive growing pains but they won't hold Anderson back.

With prices of impact bats being in the $75-130 million range these days, I think you HAVE to bring up Anderson if the dynamic nature of his bat and overall offensive game (running, XB hits) force him into the line-up.

It's a bit like Beckham (and it was something of a mistake, in retrospect) being moved from SS to 2B to 3B in the span of two years because of the desire to get his bat into the line-up as well.

that is the point, rushing the timetable. I don't know, but I think the sox would be

best serve if they would keep him in the minors to fully develop to his

potential.

he is a exciting prospects.

It could also depend a lot on what happens with the team this year. We've been waiting for someone to give a fair offer for Alexei for a couple years, that could happen this year and rush him, or they could blow a ton of money trying to build a competitve roster this year and need to hold Anderson back until a slot opens up (or even trade him in the process).

anderson is important to the sox, why even take a chance to rush

him.

the sox have several infielders who can hold the fort for a yr. letting

anderson fully develop is more important.

but yeah, i agree this might be the yr the sox move Alexei and that

pains me.

The white sox don't seem to view rushing people upwards as "taking a chance" with them, they seem to view it as challenging them. If a person doesn't perform, they seem to think that they'd rather have this happen earlier so that they can work to correct it rather than later at the big league or AAA level.

I'll admit I'm not the biggest fan of the way they do this, but then again they run a franchise and I don't.

a very good point.

let me ask, when was the last time, beside Rodon, that the sox had a

top 20 in all the mlb top prospects???

it is kind of funny i was thinking this last nite after i got off soxtalk

and i was just thinking.

i will handle Anderson with special kid gloves.

really ..... dang it so much for where I was trying to go with.

now I forgot my point.

let me add as a final statement on Anderson for today, I would not

change from the course of letting him develop even if he came out

smoking in spring training.

many thanks to all on this.

Before that, you have to go back to the now-forgettable Jon Rauch in the infamous 1999-2000 class that ended up essentially being Buehrle, Josh Fogg and Rocky Biddle, who were actually 3 of the lesser rated guys (Jon Garland was the one exception of the higher-ranked ones who had a pretty darned good career).

I doubt it was nerves - final outing in a fall league, after doing very well until then? Nothing to be nervous about. More likely just had an off day, or maybe lost focus a bit.
