December 18, 201411 yr I would just as soon keep Viciedo as a 4th OF/occasional DH than dump him off for nothing. It's not like our OF's have had a track record of staying healthy. If one of them goes down I'd rather have a guy with a little pop in his bat than sending out a Jordan Danks everyday.

If you do that then you have to keep a 5th OF on the roster because there isn't anybody else who can play CF. I mean I guess you can stick Melky there but that's not an ideal plan.
December 18, 201411 yr You can make a bench work with: Viciedo Danks2 Saldino/Leury and have a role for everyone. Viciedo could get a few hundred PAs as a platoon partner for LaRoche, pinch hitter, and backup corner OF. I just don't know why you'd want to do that.

December 18, 201411 yr Hahn has said, publically, that Viciedo is likely to be with another club. No way he says that unless they are damn sure he's going out the door. They are likely just waiting for the best offer they can get for him.

God, what is it that they see? You are right, it would seem that the only reason he was tendered is that they either DO see something, or Hahn is certain he can deal him. It is downright puzzling, tho had they not gotten JR to approve the money for Melky, maybe their plan at that point did include Tank.

If we are retaining his services and don't need him for the outfield. Is it worth using Spring Training to hone his 3B skills? That way he could spot Gillaspie againt lefties and be a bench option to come in late.
