At the time, if the Sox did not tender Viciedo, Danks or Shuck would be your starting LF. That is just too risky to even think about. Plus there's no guarantee that a player like Ichiro would want to come to the Sox.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 03:40 PM)
I was complaining about tendering Viciedo a contract a couple of days ago but with the ability to cut him and only take on 750k or whatever, there was really no point in not tendering him a contract.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 03:45 PM)
It would really be surprising if it went that far. I am pretty sure they knew they could trade him. $4 million isn't all that much, and despite what a lot want to think, this guy is still pretty young and has a lot of power.

All of these posts hit a lot of nails on a lot of heads.

DAYAN VICIEDO is an anagram of AVOID CYANIDE. Just saying. #mariners

This sums up the thoughts of Mariners fans. I'm angry that none of us have ever thought of this either. Damn.

I'd like any one of Yoervis Medina, Dominic Leone, or Tom Wilhelmsen in exchange for Viciedo.

There are some rumors out there that Viciedo isn't the one going to Seattle, but if he does, don't expect it to be a name you ever heard of...and certainly not a lot of major league experience.

Crasnick is the only guy who tweeted this, right?

Couple other mariners sources are saying (vaguely) that they are kicking the tires on a lot of different outfielders. Jack Z said today that he'd be adding "depth" mostly at this point so depending on what you consider depth he might be talking a smaller move like bringing in Viciedo or signing someone like Aoki.

Hard to say but Hahn seems pretty certain from what I've gathered that they can move Viciedo for something, even if it's not to the Ms.

Expect Dayan Viciedo to be traded. Hahn to @CSNChicago: "In all probability it will be another club that sees him in a greater role."

Hahn continued: "and usually those things have a way of working themselves out."

Rick Hahn is still a busy guy. Just before our interview today he got a call about a player.

Yep those are the quotes I was referring to earlier. All the bed wetting on SSS about tendering Viciedo was so stupid. And fwiw I called them out at the time. This place was much more balanced.

Is there any chance that the O's might be a fit for Tank? They have made no moves this off season and they have lost OF talent. Iono I'm just trying to think of what might fit if this M's ship has sailed.

Didn't even see your post. Great minds, I guess.

Sounds like this Mariners move may be in the next 2-3 days. I really don't care too much now that the Sox outfield is set. Viciedo will be gone sooner or later.

Agreed. I'm just intrigued to see if we get anything for him.

Definitely. I like a lot of the voices there, but it's way too cliquish/groupthinkey.
