December 17, 201411 yr Now that the Wil Myers deal is almost certain to happen, do you think the Rays trade Longo as well? He would fit perfectly on the Sox. I'd love to see a trade happen, but I would hate to see Rodon/Quintana/Anderson leave. What do you guys think? Sox Sider: WHITE SOX TO GO AFTER EVAN LONGORIA?
December 17, 201411 yr Too much risk in terms of talent we're going to have to give up. It's not unlike the situation with Bruce in Cincy. We're forced to pay for the 2012-13 All-Star/MVP versions without being able to cover the expensive downside of these contracts. Acquiring Jermaine Dye coming off a catastrophic injury (or Thome) is one thing...but betting the future of the franchise on Longoria is not the type of move Hahn's going to make if he wants to stay GM for 5-10 more years. The Cubs have been looking for a solid 3B for decades. Edited December 17, 201411 yr by caulfield12
December 17, 201411 yr Payroll is getting pretty darn big now (this was written before Melky signing), even if they came up with a deal for Longo for prospects (which is highly doubtful), we'd be increasing payroll even more and need to shed some. No way Rays have an interest in Danks.
December 17, 201411 yr Scott Merkin is actually addressing this via twitter now. Says it's not going to happen and would start with Quintana as the center piece.
December 17, 201411 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 07:18 PM) We don't have the minor league talent to win that bidding war. Sure we do...whether we are willing to utilize it is a different question...
December 17, 201411 yr QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) Sure we do...whether we are willing to utilize it is a different question... No way. Other organizations could easily outbid us. Remember Rodon can't be traded, even as a PTBNL yet.
December 17, 201411 yr You never know guys! MLB Trade rumors is saying there could be a 3rd team involved in the Wil Myers deal... Unlikely? yes. Possible? Also yes. I don't know what I'd do if we acquired Longoria. I'm already stoked beyond belief for next season.
December 17, 201411 yr Who the hell are the Rays going to have left to market? Archer? Moore...coming off TJ surgery?
December 17, 201411 yr Maybe KW could implement his "extreme... less-then-desirable" strategy if it came down to it and the Sox could acquire Longoria. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/104180786/wh...news-conference Ehhhh.... I'm dreaming again.
December 17, 201411 yr Not happening. Look, the Sox are going to have to use their young players in spots. All good teams do. It's up to the Sox to develop some. That's how we got Eaton - developed a young pitcher and traded him. It will start with 2B. You just can't force everything. The other issue is what if this team doesn't click. What if unforseen weaknesses develop. Have to leave yourself some room. Edited December 17, 201411 yr by GreenSox

Could he be trade bait. there is plenty of left fielders available. No one seems to want Tank.
December 17, 201411 yr QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 09:44 PM) I was just thinking Avisail hasn't really proven himself to me. Could he be trade bait. there is plenty of left fielders available. No one seems to want Tank. Not really. The best value on the FA market right now is probably Aoki at $7 million. Or Rasmus. Not exactly a plethora of riches. Would have taken Rasmus over Cabrera (based on contracts and risk/reward), but that ship has sailed. Mike Morse was basically the 3rd member of the remaining options and he's now signed with the Marlins. Otherwise, you're stuck trading bad contracts or prospects for the likes of Ethier, Crawford or CarGO. Or paying Alex Rios $11 million for one season. Edited December 17, 201411 yr by caulfield12
December 17, 201411 yr QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) Scott Merkin is actually addressing this via twitter now. Says it's not going to happen and would start with Quintana as the center piece. Exactly. Since Rodon can't be traded, Quintana or Sale are the only players who get you Longoria, and that doesn't really make your team better.
December 17, 201411 yr QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 10:55 PM) Exactly. Since Rodon can't be traded, Thank goodness for that. We still wouldn't be the favorites even with him. Keep the young talent.
December 17, 201411 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) Dodgers and Cubs make a lot more sense and have more funds/prospects to deal. Yeah, the Cubs actually would be a great fit because of all those prospects, they don't seem to have a longterm 3B, and they easily have the pieces to make a trade.
December 17, 201411 yr QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 17, 2014 -> 12:36 AM) Yeah, the Cubs actually would be a great fit because of ale l those prospects, they don't seem to have a longterm 3B, and they easily have the pieces to make a trade. Longoria had a bad year 2014. He's owed way too much for the rest of his contract. Pass

I know you have been on a "keep and develop the kids" crusade all offseason, but if Evan Longoria is possible (not saying he is, just supposing) than you do this every time and don't look back. That being said, I don't think this will happen
December 17, 201411 yr QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Dec 17, 2014 -> 04:46 AM) Longoria had a bad year 2014. He's owed way too much for the rest of his contract. Pass His contract is pretty amazing, actually. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...shtml#contracts
December 17, 201411 yr Would trade anyone on the farm not named Rodon to get him. With that said, it's probably not happening.
