So many needs. Can't possibly all be filled no matter what the Sox do. Black holes all over the place.

Mark

I like the names mentioned as ideas:

Brandon Phillips

Neil Walker

Juan Uribe

David Freese

Daniel Murphy

Javier Baez

Starlin Castro

Jason Heyward

Justin Upton

Yoenis Cespedes

Alex Gordon

Dexter Fowler

Denard Span

Gerardo Parra

Austin Jackson

Steve Pearce

Colby Rasmus.

The trade market could include Carlos Gonzalez, Ryan Braun, Marcell Ozuna, and Yasiel Puig. Ozuna would be particularly interesting for Chicago, as he’s yet to reach arbitration and will be earning less than $600K. He’ll be appealing to many teams, however.

In the end, the Sox have options, but they're going to have to play them right.

I'd be fine with trying to acquire Marcell Ozuna and Martin Prado from Marlins. I'd see what it'd take to get Derek Norris from San Diego as well.

Agreed but can they? That's the million dollar question isn't it and to add one more will JR authorize the drastic increase in money to get some of these guys or take on their current contracts? We'll see.

Sox have a lot of holes to fill, I don't anticipate all of them getting fixed in one offseason but we'll see.

Man, Dexter Fowler has been way better than I've ever realized. His career numbers are really solid. Him and Murphy are nice mid level options.

Article also mentioned a Korean 3B. Now I know many international players do not adjust but he'd have to be better than what we've had the past few years. Maybe he can be had at Kang money?

Edit: the name is Jae-gyun Hwang

I will be pissed if we have to go through another season with Flowers as our starting catcher. Back up I could deal with but not the starter.

I'd be ok with signing Wieters at catcher. AC for stop gap SS. Then big blockbuster Quintana package for Cargo and Arenado. My dream for a couple months before shattered lol.

Arenado is not on the block. If he was, you're not getting him for Q. Now you want him and CarGo for Q? That deal would take you Sale, Q, Fullmer, and Abreu. I don't think you realize how much Colorado wants to build around Arenado.

I think you honestly have a better shot at getting Stanton.

Either which way, out of the midlevel options I really like Murphy & Fowler as well.

Just as he is undervaluing Arenado and CarGo, you're severely undervaluing Q, Sale, Fulmer and Abreu.

Hahahah, cmon on man. Sale could easily get you Arenado and Cargo. Add Fulmer, Q and Abreu? Hah.

Murphy makes every current White Sox look like a gold glover. He is beyond horrible defensively.

Is this write up from MLBTR really anything we don't already know or have discussed? The holes on this team are rather obvious.

Another futile season incoming

I'm not sure Colorado would trade Arenado for Sale straight up. Maybe since they need pitching so badly, but that's how valuable pre-arb positional stars are.

Why would a team demand the world for a guy who is clearly unhappy there and has spoken out against the organization?

The Sox are below average at every no-pitching position except for. CF, 1b, and maybe even C. I'd much rather use Sale or whomever to get solid at a number of positions than to chase someone people are trying to convince themselves is a superstar.

 Come on man, yes they would.

Anyway, from the article:

Though Avisail Garcia is only 24, it’s time to try someone else in right field. Hahn says he’s still confident in Garcia, but the team can’t afford another replacement level season as they hope for him to develop. Garcia should be shopped to rebuilding clubs for something useful this winter, and sent to Triple-A if no good offers come in.

I remember Arenado speaking about how surprised he was with the Tulo trade and how he thought CarGo could be next but I wouldn't consider that speaking out against the organization.

Regardless if Arenado is happy or not, he is still worth a ton on the trade market and is exactly the type of player to build around so the Rockies have no incentive to move him.

So who will be to blame next spring when Arenado is still wearing a Rockies uniform? KW? Hahn? JR? Adam Dunn?

First of all. You undervalue Q. Second, you probably don't pay attention to tea leaves around the league. Arenado will be traded at some point in the next year or two.. He's not staying with Colorado. He came out publicly about the way Tulo was treated. He's also a Boras client IIRC. Also I said a package with Q. Like Q, Montas, Trey and Garcia for Arenado, CarGo and a pitching prospect.

You also way overvalue Arenado compared to our guys. Sale, Abreu and Fulmer? Lol

I'm crazy. I come up with crazy ideas. But trade is how we're making an impact on this team this season.

I'll find the article but I thought he was talking different than being surprised. I thought he was pissed off. Maybe I'm wrong.

They aren't trading him. That's the bottom line.

"It’s almost freakish that so many players performed below expectations in the same year"

That's the silver lining, we should be able to reasonably expect a bounce back year from a few guys. Remember that Dunn and Rios both bounced back in a big way in 2012, would be nice if LaRoche and Melky could do the same (or even just a modest improvement from both). Also, I also like the idea of Fowler, surprised he hasn't come up as a possible name on this board yet.
