Just curious how people feel about the idea since it was mentioned in an MLB.com article and by someone not named Levine.

 

Not particularly fond of the idea due to Desmond's injuries and his offensive numbers leave something to be desired.

 

That said, there's no doubt he would upgrade the defense and his offense seems to be somewhat on par with Austin Jackson, whom I am open to, so to be fair, I should be open to the idea of Jennings. Jennings last year of arbitration is 2017 so he comes with two seasons worth of team control.

 

Anyone open to the idea? Suggestions as to which inexpensive Sox reliever the Rays could be interested in? Maybe a Jennings for Jennings swap?

I could get on board with that! But would the Rays do it? The deal they just did with the Rox was the exact opposite....dealing RP for more OF depth.

If the Sox were to acquire Jennings, does he easily replace Garcia is right field? His offensive numbers look similar to Garcia's. Is he that much of an upgrade defensively? Not being sarcastic...I just don't know much about his defense.

We have the bullpen depth to make the trade, and Jennings' salary is low enough that we could still make another move.

Jennings has been worth 12.2 fWAR over his career in comparison to Avi's -1.9. So with pretty similar offensive career lines, you can get a pretty good idea of the upgrade Jenning's defense and baserunning would be over Avi's.

According to fangraphs, Jennings grades about the same in CF and LF, both of which are better than Eaton so Jennings would upgrade CF.

I don't mind Rogers but Levine, just can't stand the guy. To me it seems like if Levine writes about a possible trade, its the kiss of death and likely won t happen.

Keeps injuring his left knee. Not a great injury, but as you said, if you get him cheap.

Getting off turf may help Jennings out but I would guess any trade involving Jennings would also include a SP. One of Ordorizzi, Cobb or one of the lefties. Most likely Cobb or Ordorizzi though.

Why?

If we're going for the "anything is better than Avi" route Jennings is fine I guess, but if he wasn't a former top prospect would anybody care? He's 29 with over 2,000 AB's...don't think any light is going to come on. Especially in this franchise where hitting talent goes to die. I'd rather just keep Petricka honestly, guys who can play a good LF and barely maintain a .700 OPS aren't that hard to find.

well i am extremely apprehensive in getting Jennings. his defensive stats, i will let the guys who are way better at than i to break it down.

 

but offensively, no... i look at the 13 and 14 stats, the splits and his hitting vs rhp, is almost the same. around the 235 range.... no way will this will be a nice pickup. well at least for what i know in baseball stats.
