Sox attended Lincecum showcase day - Angels expected to sign him

Featured Replies

This morning on Mully and Hanley, John Heyman said he expects the Lincecum signing to happen soon, possibly even today. He said he's hearing the White Sox and Angels have interest in letting him start while SF has only offered him a relief pitching role.

Ground breaking.

Can't be us signing him - it's not Wednesday.

This is a guy who has been below replacement level for 4 straight seasons - and sometimes well-below. I don't GAF, but they better not spend too much on him. His k-rate is also in the s***ter.

Haha I'm pretty sure you just made that up but it sounds exactly like something Hahn would say.

Well done! I laughed.

Sources: Tim Lincecum closing in on a deal with the Angels. Giants and White Sox are out.

yay, even though it makes no sense for them to get him when they're also trading Trout away :)

Is anyone upset about this? He seemed like a way overpriced guy--nothing against his past glories, but it would have been Danks II (nothing against Danks either).

'yes we have the capability of being interested, much like the 29 other teams'

Source: #Angels, should they complete signing of Lincecum, expect him to spend at least 20 days in minors. Would evaluate from there.

His final line for the Salt Lake Bees: five innings, three hits, three runs, five strikeouts and three walks. Reports from the scene indicate that his fastball was sitting between 89 and 91 mph.

The plan is to bring Lincecum to the big leagues later this month, but for now, he's shaking off the rust in Triple-A.

That sounds like pretty much the exact same reason the Orioles gave up on Gonzalez...because there had been a decrease of at least a couple of MPH off his fastball.

(Obviously, Lincecum once was mid to upper 90's and Gonzalez didn't throw THAT hard...and there's his current claim that gaining an extra 2 MPH back from where he was before the hip problem will be just enough to allow him to be a 4.25-4.5ish ERA guy in the AL).

Do we know exactly how much LA is paying Lincecum? Because if you look at all the money invested in Turner/Latos/Gonzalez, it's probably still less than what the Angels are giving him.

Tim Lincecum is not a good MLB pitcher anymore.

After allowing one run in six innings for his first start, Lincecum has thrown 24 innings over six starts, allowing 50 hits, nine home runs, and 30 runs. That’s not a typo — more than two hits per inning and about a home run every other inning since his first start. Also, his average velocity in his last start was one of the lowest of his career.

Sounds like some posters here owe the FO an internet apology

Well, when the potential trade return for Miguel Gonzalez is the highlight of the trade deadline, there's not so much to celebrate.

It's also not like Fulmer is close to ready or worth celebrating.

Finally, if James Shields pitched in his first 3-4 starts like he has recently, the White Sox might still be in the wild card race.

Not I! Sox hated what they saw and Lincecum has been s***.

rabbit have any info that can give us hope we are going to sell. Cashner just netted a top 100 prospect and another very solid one in Castillo. Please tell me we are going to take advantage of this market!

No way. The Sox won one of those horrendous starts. The Sox might have an additional 2-3 wins, max. That doesn't get them into the race.

Oops.

We were right on Lincecum. But not so much on Avi Garcia and Erik Johnson, etc. Carson Fulmer was clearly rushed, etc.

When you're wrong more often than right, you're a .500 team, at best.

In the end, we usually look more like the Island of Misfit Toys.

lmao Caulfield you were pimping and preening Lincecum every bad start Shields had.
