When they asked him about the Bulls plane being pushed back, he just laughed, but he acknowledged beforehand that if the Bulls and Miami had similar offers to Wade, he would take the Bulls offer because he will have felt disrespected by Miami.

 

Looking at it from his angle, he obviously always wanted to play for the Bulls. He knows unless he joins Lebron or goes to GS on a minimum, he isn't winning anything no matter where he goes, so now is the time to get paid to play out the string.

 

I don't know how much he has left. I would guess not a lot or someone would give him 3 years. The whole he will attract a max guy or two seems farfetched to me (of course I thought he becoming a Bull was farfetched). First off, why would Rondo recruit someone who is supposed to recruit someone to take Rondo's place? And if you want to play with DWade, you get to play with him when he's 36 and on the last year of his deal and the last leg of his career. Doesn't make much sense.

 

They are going to be too good to be a bottom 3 or 4 team, so I hope they at least make the playoffs.

The Bulls FO have been so outright terrible in so many ways the past few years and then they both got to keep their jobs. As fans we had as much as we could take and that last bit of terrible just put bmags over the top.

I missed the fact that Wade got a player option. Obviously that changes the math considerably, though he's not going to do much recruiting if he opts out.

Yeah - It also allows the potential for Wade to be one of the guys who helps create flexibility (I think I alluded it to one of my posts somewhere).

I think the Bulls considered a full tear it down rebuild. This would have required trading Jimmy Butler. It didn't seem like they were getting enough in return for Jimmy to deal him. With this being the case, they would have been picking in the late lottery anyway. They would still be trying to sign free agents the next 2 off seasons and nobody would be coming to a bad team with nothing to look forward to. Wade and Rondo are stopgaps but I'm not willing to say that it doesn't get them closer to a title. A free agent or two is much more likely to come to the Bulls with Wade in tow and it sounds like Butler has been recruiting his ass off. Wade coming does more to the Bulls image in a positive way than it helps on the court. So yes, being the 6th seed in the East, with Wade/Rondo/Butler definitely puts them in a better position to sign a max player than going with just Butler and picking 11th in the draft does. They just weren't willing to tear it down completely because they would not have been bad enough next year to make it worthwhile. And they like playoff revenue.

I would rather watch a worn down Wade than Rose but I'm not sure we didn't just make a lot of movement to basically be in the same position we would be next year anyway. At the very least Robin Lopez is not the 2nd best player on the team which would have been unbearable.

Rondo I am at least interested in what the team can be if one of previously bad/mediocre guys can all of sudden figure it out. If Niko, McD, Portis or maybe even Valentine comes in and has a great year that enlightens us all then we are working with something here. You move Lopez and you are very close, barring some huge injury, you could move Lopez no problem.

It's still too tight if we assume Wade is here. Butler+Wade is about 43 mil (haven't seen exact # for next year). Two full-freight maxes already takes you barely over 102. Even if you assume 25 each, you have less than 10 mil for the rest of the roster, which doesn't really work.

 

I'll put it this way: the Warriors have Klay and Draymond at only 34 next year and they will have to give up basically everyone to keep Durant and Steph (though they may take less).

I don't totally know what it means, but they do not have Bird rights on Durant. My understanding is they basically can't keep Iggy if the cap is 102 and they take close to the max.

Depends on the "Cap holds" - they would need to be able to fit all of the cap holds and Durant's full contract under the cap. Calculating all of those is more math than I have time to do right now, but a quick check and I think Curry's is $18 mil. Iguodala is slightly less but close - if a guy makes more than the NBA average salary the cap hold is 150% of their last year's salary.
