Then why did the Twins send up 4 starters in the 9th and get two hits?  Why didn't they just take a knee or send in their scrubs?

Yes I'll never understand why it's up to the players on the winning team in a blowout to sacrifice their stats.

LOL. How fuking ridiculous some of these arguments have gotten.

Sure pinch hit four times and send in starters and relievers to pitch in a blow out. OK..

The arguments that LaRussa is out of touch with the younger generation is part of the pussification of America.

Take responsibility instead of waiting for a parent, employer or manager to clean up your sh1t.

Yermin could have taken a couple of pitches at 3-0. Instead he loaded up to hit a tape measure home run.

None of the Sox , the Manager, the hitting coach or any player asked Yermin to do that.  He decided to spike the ball in the end zone.

Mercedes put a target on his own head and ultimately that might involve a scrum between the two teams next time they play.

It is done all the time in other professional sports and you know it.

In  the NFL, quarterbacks take a knee , several times if necessary  to run out the clock instead of running up the score.

In the NBA  BOTH teams put in scrubs to finish out the game, and then dribble out the last seconds instead of sending LeBron out to dunk one in yo face.

Yermin did what he did and should have taken matters into his own hands when they threw at him. He decided to swing for the fences on a 3-0 pitch from a position player while up 11 runs in the 9th. Ridiculous.

Some youngsters like to create problems and have daddy clean it up later.  Maybe Yermin should charge the mound next time. Don't wait for Tony to explain what you did and why after the game and then characterize Baldelli's response.

Tony  has been doing one helluva job with this team.  If we win the Division with an outfield filled in with Minor league talent (and Rookie Vaughn hitting .225 with 2 HR) , he will be up for Manager of the Year.

Lol...terrible takes all around

So the younger generation are the snowflakes and not the old dinosaurs that get offended and throw childish tantrums over the most benign shit like swinging on a 3-0 count? Pure projection.

Yermin doesn’t play his game. He plays Major League Baseball....who just suspended a pitcher for doing something Tony had no problem with, and who tweeted about Yermin’s HR in celebratory fashion.

So turns out ol’ Tony needs to realize he’s managing Major League Baseball and get with the program.

MLB just threw TLR under the bus.  Well deserved.  Yermin HR is a good attraction. TLR rants are out of touch. MLB wants to attract young viewers who are not concerned about “unwritten rules”.

None of the Sox asked Yermin, the designated hitter, to try to hit the ball because that’s what he’s paid to do.  He’s there to entertain fans, not to ensure a bunch of well paid athletes don’t get their feelings hurt because they lost by too many runs.  The funny thing is the biggest pussy in all this is Tony, who refused to protect his own player and begged the Twins for forgiveness.  If anyone didn’t want to see a benches clearing brawl it’s him, probably because he knows half the league would love to whoop his ass the way Pedro beat up old man Zimmer.

Yes LsRussa standing on the principle of sportsmanship is a reason to "hate" him.

Ah yes, sportsmanship is when you send the message to your opponent that “We’re beating you so bad we don’t need to even try against you”.

Yea, like sportsmanship and personal responsibility.

Personal responsibility like not expecting your opponent to stop trying to protect your fragile ego just because you've played a terrible game?

Wait, it's tough to not try anymore because you might hurt the other teams feelings but it's "pussification" to try and score and keep the foot on the pedal regardless of score because your job is to produce and not be nice to the other team? Another great take.

If its such a established sportsmanship principle, why is the entire team supporting Yermin and not LaRussa?  If the Twins Mgr decides he doesn't want to tax his bullpen and use position players to pitch, then that's fine and his dumb decision. However you cant also expect the opponents to lay off and just take pitches. Yeah we suck as a team and we need to rest our bullpen, so can you please take it easy on us. Total BS as CC Sabathia pointed out.
