  2. I get what you are saying and agree in many respects. Depth though...I just wonder what Colson means as far as depth? If he isn't our starting SS/3B...what value does he have? Bench? Minors until that time runs out? I really don' t have that answer...just thinking out loud. I just don't see Colson having much value to the White Sox if he is NOT playing everyday. Would you feel good about him pinch-hitting in the 8th inning of a close game? All hypothetical though...if they bring Colson back next year (which they will)...he will be starting at SS!
  3. now there's a word losing organization and fans never believe in is depth. So if Colson can't hit major league pitching he can still be a backup at SS/3B. So instead our mindset is trading a problem which just means you inherit new ones. Rarely does that work ever for the Sox. But there are plenty of Castillos out there to appease the fan's dislike of Colson. I still don't trust Getz in trades. Any GM can get pretty good value out of trading a future CY pitcher. Trading from a strength is just as much as trading from weakness.
  4. This is how I feel...far from perfect but certainly worthy of this award.
  5. Keep in mind that these days, people have 60" HDTVs to watch games at home that didn't exist back in the day. Also, baseball is just not as dominant in our culture as it was in the 50s and 60s. It's more difficult now to expect to draw fans just because they want to see big name stars in person. Maybe Ohtani? But I can't think of much else star power that gets young fans excited such that they want to see these stars in person. There's also a different economic expectation these days. When the Sox drew 1.65M fans in 1977, it broke the all-time Chicago attendance record and was a massive success. Now, if any MLB team caps out at 1.6M fans, there are screams of how the franchise is failing and has serious attendance problems.
  6. He's done some questionable things, but they do play hard for him. He deserves the honor.
  7. We seem to forget that being a bench coach for a great manager means nothing when they are now a manager and for a different organization. It's like they forget anything they learned.
  8. I'd of thought this was incorporated into something previoulsy as it seems like a very good stat to measure.
  9. Today

  10. Right, I’m with you. I don’t really care about the experience if the Sox are playing because I’m too focused on the game. In fact I rarely leave my seat at all. When I’m traveling and go to other venues, though, I indulge more in the “experience” side of it, and that’s how I expect casual fans treat home games too. At the end of the day, I want the Sox park to be awesome mostly because I want the team to gain every competitive advantage possible.
  11. I think the Big ten is up for grabs. UCLA toughest games left are at Michigan and then play USC. OSU lost their quarterback so who knows if they will hold up. Indiana is at Michigan this Saturday and then has USC at home, and Washington on the road. I think Indiana will repeat as Big Ten Champs. That in itself is a crazy sentence, Indiana football has been a door mat my whole life.
  12. Really not feeling Jarrett Payton on mornings with Haugh
  13. Or opens it up for the first three loss team...probably from the SEC. Hard to imagine anyone in the Big10 besides OSU and Indiana. Maybe UCLA?
  14. We used to buy those cheap scorecards day of game, write out the starting lineups, etc. Almost nobody except broadcasters and those listening at home on the radio older than 50 would do that anymore.
  15. I am right there with you on watching the ballgame...BUT...I get it...there aren't a lot of "fans" that grow up the way we did in this era! Not being critical...if someone is dropping as much money as they do at an MLB game these days and they expect more than a game...I understand it!
  16. Man I use to love that game, we actually had an online league at one point with posters from the board but that had to be like 15-20 years ago lol
  17. My best friend was a diehard Cub fan, and he preferred the Cell over Wrigley, to each his own.
  18. The tribute to Stacey King was nice but the game was not watchable. The Bulls looked like the Washington Generals against the Harlem Globetrotters. Inept is probably the best description I could think of: Lacking skill or competence, being bad at physical tasks, sports, trades, or jobs.
  19. Just think, back in the day this old guy went to games at Comiskey and Wrigley just to see Major League Baseball games and greats stars like Williams, Mantle, Mays, Aaron, Mathews and so many more besides our guys like Fox Minoso and Aparicio and never gave the experience and all this other stuff a thought while only paying a 1.25 for a grandstand seat, I can’t believe I survived all these years without the “experience”.
  20. 33% is upper deck isolation/heights 33% lack of things to do in surrounding area/parking lots 33% low attendance most seasons leaves visitors a depressed feeling except for weekends totally different atmosphere 2008 G163 or this year's post season...at least 25 or so home games this season as well ramp were quantity in Old Comiskey but just a reminder of seat segregation in GRF suites in middle destroy coziness
  21. My college friends and I do a trip to a new stadium every summer as a way to keep a guaranteed trip on the books, up to around 20 parks now. I'll share an anecdote of a story I overheard of anyway group of guys doing this same thing at the same time, and their perspective on Rate Field. Two years ago I was at my gate at the San Francisco airport after doing a double dip of a Giants game Friday afternoon (incredible!) and Oakland game Saturday night (depressing!). Oakland's stadium experience was just so sad with the upper bowl totally closed off, fans were loud and proud, and just knowing there were like 8 games left in that building before they left for LV. Gate area at the airport is empty except for two other guys and I overhear them debating all of the stadiums they've been to, best to worst. One of them wholeheartedly said Rate Field was the worst fan experience and that he would never, ever want to return. Worse than any other stadium, including Oakland and Tampa. Now, this is an outsider perspective and not a fan of the team, so they didn't tailgate etc to get the full experience. And it's only one voice calling it the worst. But non-Sox fans are not champing at the bit to come see a game here. We have an opportunity to make this fan-friendly for our fans and make it an attractive place to visit.
  22. So then you can imagine the White Sox really did move to Tampa but hired about ten future big league GMs instead.

  24. The White Sox aren't going to use TAnne Murray as a starting SS. They would go with Acuna or Meidroth first and foremost. As bad as Colson's season ended, he was still 13th out of 26 in SS ratings. It would be a minor miracle if Colson could be out of bottom 5.
  25. Is there such a thing as the win-60, lose-60, and the season is decided by the other 42 in basketball? Because that was definitely one of the lose 60.
