That comment by Kolson really has me steaming. The Rays who have already won 90 games are one of the few teams this year with more hits than Ks and by over 300, the Sox are just about the complete opposite. The Rays have played old time baseball this year which is really refreshing, I’m so tired of the modern game with strikeout after strikeout and all this BS about bad speed and launch angles and that Ks are just another out. We really don’t have to go back that far like the 1950s for old time baseball, our 2005 World Champion White Sox had 450 more hits than Ks and could beat teams all different kinds of ways, remember Ozzie’s Small Ball. The Sox can’t trade Kolson Montdumbery fast enough.

“The 78” + "The Railyard" = the future of the Sox and Fire
Even though the Amtrak proposed maintenance yard relocation is only the first of many hurdles before a South Loop ballpark becomes a reality, it feels like if this step gets done then a new ballpark is all but happening. Ishbia has said a new stadium would be privately-financed, so that removes the biggest hurdle (state funding). I doubt the city will balk at funding infrastructure for a development with this much private investment. He still needs to close a deal with BNSF for their yard, but that isn't likely to have public opposition. Oh sure, there are still ways this can fall apart and nothing is guaranteed until there are shovels in the ground. Ishbia doesn't even own the team and may not until 2034. But, it does look like a lot of things are being done to make this happen. Bringing in Northwestern Medicine as another anchor helps, too.

Mike Shirley resigns
The more I reminisce, I guess you're right. In that environment, it was more like college friends, and some of the women - I'd get in regular arguments with over work expectations, conduct and stuff, co-workers compared it to siblings. There were attractive women, but nobody I'd start vomiting out lurid, vulgar stuff like maybe Shirley did. Everybody trusted each other. And the ugly stuff crosses a line and destroys that trust that makes the workplace work, even when people get baudy and open up to each other. Now, retail in my teens (70s-80s) and construction in my 20s (1980s), racist and sexist like you wouldn't believe. The Rodney King riots happened then. Boy, the conversation at the lumber warehouse with other truck drivers who watched the footage.

Sounds like another less high profile version of Liar's Poker, American Psycho and A Man in Full. Maybe yours has less cocaine and yachts/strippers involved compared to the East Coast Wolf of Wall Street types.

You give the other person 3 names, and they have to tell you, from those three people you both know, which one they'd copulate with, which one they'd marry, and which one they'd kill. The drinky convo was explaining your logic. Okay, you go first. WS23, SS2k5 and Paulie4Prez.

Who are guys you think are replaceable right now on this 26 man roster. Names I have are Acuña, Rogers, Doyle, Quero on the position player side. Urquidiy, Murphy on the pitching side Bring Romo back, he's been better than Jake Rogers and Edgar Quero. You don't need 3 bad catchers on your bench, 2 is enough. I believe Charlotte's season ends soon, so Romo would otherwise just be sitting at home. Get rid of Urquidiy, and Murphy and call up Drew Thorpe and Schweitzer. Thorpe's pitched in the majors, he isn't some green rookie. He's also been dealing on his rehab stint. Having Thorpe and Sandlin in the rotation lets you hide Castillo in the bullpen, which strengthens a gaping hole for this team right now which is the rotation. Murphy isn't as good as Schweitzer, lesser of two evils Controversial take: Jettison Acuña and bring back Rikuu, he's been playing regularly, if you need someone to hop over to SS you can move Chase and plug Rikuu in at 2B in a pinch. Don't see this happening because Getz refuses to DFA a guy who has two fucking at bats this month.

You don't know f***/marry/kill? A bunch of 30-somethings out of Big 10 colleges, move to Chicago. Market Research is an alcoholic industry. Long hours, everybody hits Billy Goat's afterwards. Around 8:00, after 2 hours of drinking, stories start coming out, whatever. We got respect through the long hours and bailing each other's asses out. I started a couple years before internet surveys became a thing in the late 1990s. Ronin and SPSS really hadn't honed their online products, yet. We'd program "Computer Surveys" to launch from an icon off a CD, send them to mall recruiting sites, then they'd send back data on disc. Trying to iron out survey logic issues until the FedEx cutoff at 9:00. Miss that and you have to drive to the airport to make the 10:00 cutoff. Anyway, everybody's checking everybody else out. Respectfully.

"That's where I learned the f***/marry/kill game." Wut??? Last time, you brought up porn out of the blue. Seriously, I'm almost 57 and I have never looked at women so simplistically, and certainly not in the workplace. I mean some women also have their "bigger better deal" approach to men too, but if you treat them respectfully...you get that respect back in return. And, no, that doesn't automatically mean being a doormat/getting walked all over. As far as how you know they will find someone better...we shall see. Sox aren't exactly known for paying front office guys the most, except Hahn as Asst GM.

It's 2026. My beer league hockey teams don't even do that kind of s%*#, and there are no consequences if we do. This guy was a piece of s%*# through and through. Imagine what he says in private, if what he said in public was enough to get him shitcanned.

You Millennials through Gen Zers are funny. Shirley's a baseball guy in a male-centric industry. Let's not pat ourselves on the back for tsk-tsking so heartily. I'm 63. In pretty much all my jobs before 30, bosses were taking me aside, asking asking me if I was banging the secretary or whatnot. And if I wasn't, somebody oughta be. They wanted lurid war stories. Maybe this is frowned upon today, but it's all over the place still, I'm sure. I worked in corporate mid-30's to age 50, and I never had to worry about saying something stupid because the women were worse than the men with after-hours, drinky-time baudy talk. That's where I learned the f***/marry/kill game. I'm sure the Sox drew a line in the sand after the first investigation, and kept an eye on it, tolerating any hot-headed BS because he did his job fine, but keep those slurs out of your mouth. As soon as the Area Code games stuff bubbled up, that was a bridge too far. The fact that it happened and he was gone tells me it was a live issue they were ready to move on. Listening to the FutureSox PodCast right now. They'll plug in somebody better than Shirley quick, and only Caulfield will be bringing this up in order to shame the happy dogs in 6 months.

they actually had multiple complaints going back 4 or more years, and they didn't fire him for that, in fact the report is they signed him to a contract extension. so let's not pat ourselves on the back pretending like the Sox are this shining beacon of purity and don't allow the most rotten s%*# imaginable go on without repercussions until it's absolutely necessary to fire someone because it would tarnish the brand. how soon we forget about Omar Vizquel, Daryl Boston, etc.

It COULD happen anywhere, yet seems to happen here a lot. It also took twice people complaining from outside of the organization to make it happen.

Mike Shirley resigns
Not just every organization, but every company. We've all been exposed to that type of behavior. I was initially concerned if he stepped away due to an internal conflict on the direction of the scouting/team/development. At least this is something that they can easily address, fix, and move on from as an organization.
