We all know teams are chomping at the bit to get Drew Romo

I'm not sure this is right. The Sox had DFA Romo to get him down to Charlotte at the end of Spring and then there's this:

Two years ago, this trade would have set pulses racing, as Doyle won his second Gold Glove in two MLB seasons but more significantly added some pop to his game: 23 homers, 72 RBIs and a 3.9 WAR that seemed to predict multi-tool minor stardom ahead. But in the two years since, the center fielder has badly regressed. His 2025 was a stumble to a 0.2 WAR that apparently affected his defense as well, and this season Doyle battled oblique and groin injuries that saw him sent to Triple-A for a rehab assignment before his call-up just two games ago. Sam Bradfield over at our sister site Purple Row offered her insight on the trade, promising that "when [Doyle] is on, he's on" and that the speedster ran into both bad injury luck and struggles with altitude. Not the team I want to play right after the trade deadline, for sure. I'm hoping for 2 of 3, but sadly, be happy with 1 of 3.

I'm a bit worried about the pitching. They ran out of gas in 2012 or else that's a playoff team. This team seems similar. If only JR had re-signed Buehrle that year.

Definitely possible. Also, I don't think Romo has options left, and Quero does. Obviously they could have just DFA'd Romo and kept Quero around. In that scenario, though, Bart would still be playing the majority of the games. That would hurt Quero's development.

About a week ago, Romo made a challenge later in the game that looked ridiculous. But the way he made it looked exactly like he was just trying to buy Davis Martin a breather, and I think it's possible he's the most on the same page with his pitchers out of the bunch.

Hogan, is it possible that the Sox pitchers collectively want Drew Romo to stay because--- for lack of a better term--- he's good to work with? In other words, that he makes them feel more confident somehow? And although the bat hasn't exactly been on fire, maybe this catcher-to-pitcher rapport takes precedence. Or, maybe that theory is "out in left field?"

Hays has 7 hits, 4 of which stayed in the park in his last 5 games in Charlotte and I believe his rehab assignment is up on 8/6. I can't imagine Hays is a DFA candidate, does that spell the end of Grichuck? Doyle goes down and we have two of the same guy in Grichuk and Hays?

I predict Joey Bart's bat alone will lift the Sox historic low combined offensive output at the catching position in an upward projection.
