I'm going to temper my Will praise with one small fact, he didn't have many choices remaining. He had (by Sox standards) quality arms just hanging and past their expiration date. He took the slightly fresher generic arms and it worked.

Going back to the regular season the Sox have now won nine of their last 12. Maybe be getting hot at the right time.

2005 my kids were living at home and Sox fans. Then they went off to college and somehow became Astros fans. Lucky for them I didn't have to call my attorney for a rewrite of my will tomorrow.

In hindsight it wasn't so bad losing the division and getting the Wild Card series. It got the Sox engines revved up and gave them confidence.

Totally different but it couldn’t help but remind me of El Duque against the Red Sox in ‘05. We all think of him as a hero now, but he wasn’t very good heading into that post season. If we rewind the tape to that game thread (yes, SoxTalk was around back then), fans were not happy about Ozzie calling him into the game. When I saw it was Kay coming into the game, I immediately texted my brother and dad wonder what in the f*** Will was thinking. While not as dramatic as El Duque’s ‘05 appearance against the BoSox, Kay came in as a similar underdog and handled business. Great call by Will….a lot of managerial feel went into that decision.

Probably one of the more impressive performances on ABS all year, and in the highest leverage games. I will just say make it 4 per game and call it good. Let the awful umps get demoted. But keep a little human element. It rewards skill on both ump and catcher.
