It’s a tough balance to be an “over the top hype guy” and an insightful baseball voice. The San Diego guys are the only example of it working effectively that I am aware of. Schrif has gotten better - but I’m not sure if that is a reflection of his “talent” evolving or simply the teams improvement making him look sound tolerable at times. His calls on big plays are good (thogh he can’t seem to identify a home run off the bat), but he simply talks too much. His job as the PBP guy is to call the pitches and describe the results. He calls every game like it’s a blowout or rain delay where the announcer has to fill. If he talked less, called the game, and let the color guy fill the space, he’d be much better off. Fans will always complain about announcing. People on here are triggered by the 8 second “Nationwide” jingle for God’s sake. I usually defend him because I feel like there’s a lot of piling on him, but if they move on I’d be ok. He doesn’t seem to get that he’s not the show.
