September 27, 1967- The Sox finished the season with the two worst teams in the league, Kansas City and Washington and the fans could smell that elusive World Series in the greatest pennant race ever. However, it all began to fall apart this night as the Sox dropped a double header to the A’s 5-2 and 4-0 after rain postponed the single game Tuesday. The Sox, in the middle of a pennant race, got over three days off, not having played since Sunday afternoon in Cleveland. Pitchers Gary Peters and Joe Horlen got tagged with the losses on “Black Wednesday” but the final embarrassment was yet to come. The normally fundamentally sound White Sox made three errors in the twin-bill disaster and got seven hits. September 29, 1967 - The Sox still had a chance for the pennant before they lost 1-0 to the Senators. The only run was set up when first baseman Tommy McCraw wasn’t able to catch a pop up off the bat of Washington’s Fred Valentine in the first inning. NBC-TV had erected a barrier for their field level cameras in case the World Series came to Comiskey Park and Valentine’s pop fell into that enclosed area near the visitor’s dugout. Valentine then singled driving in the only run. Two errors by the Sox in that first inning led to the unearned run. That season marked the 17th straight year that the Sox finished better than .500 at 89-73.

If they can beat both Gilbert and Kirby in Seattle...get on that plane for four games in SAC, then things just might get interesting again

Uh oh. History. Remember 1967 when the KC team ruined our Sox season? Horlen and Peters were going in a DH in KC before a couple thousand fans. Sox lost both games and totally fizzed. WIll anybody pick up on the historical significance of this series? Is it 1967 revisited? Sad I can only log in at the library. I've basically taken a year off the board with no way to log on. That said I love this team. The grinders never give up. I even like Muni despite the BA near .200 now. Fave player is Banana Man tho. I like Meidroth a lot and Antonucci. And Vargas is simply amazing. This team has done so well with one of the worst pitching staffs in Sox history. I'm thinking in this era of lift and pull u really don't need dominant pitchers. Guys who are trying to hit it out at all times sometimes frankly miss on the launch angle and the quality of pitch really doesn't matter. How many batting practice homers are missed off fat pitches? A lot. I'd say our pitching staff is ridiculously ordinary. And yet we win.

Hi haven't been able to log on. Am wondering how good Br. Rice is this year. I think we are 2-2. Haven't been able to watch any games yet on Br Rice TV. My general feeling is this team will peak late once the state title glisten wears off the kids and they realize they are in a dogfight. Don't like the way Loyola killed our defense late. TD after TD. I doubt we'll beat Mt Carmel. Are the playoffs in jeopardy? Thanks for the link on the Rice youtube stuff. I will watch and try to get a feel if everybody's fat and happy after the state title. I know it's changed my attention a bit. We finally won state so I am not stressed about my high school team. I like Q's program.

Yes and yes. The guy is funding the entire thing himself and only receiving help through taking advantage of existing federal programs for loans/grants. Although I can see the historical appeal of developing the existing area, since Ishbia’s paying for the whole damn thing, he’s more than entitled to use his preferred location.

KC only has two Big 4 professional sports franchises...while Vegas will have 3. So part of it's a scarcity argument in those markets.

Here was the case two years ago for Greene. No doubt Clark’s the CFer. They still have to fit Hope in there somewhere…who comes with his own set of limitations, think Delmon Young. Vargas’ doubts are more about his overall track record, which has some parallels to Moncada, and his eventual defensive position. The other thing with Greene is he has gone from 20/20 or 30/30 candidate to a limited number of steals. And he also can hit from the LH side, which is rarer as well.

The White Sox are the only team in all of professional sports that make their players stay in the game after getting hurt. All other teams pull those players and immediately put them on injured reserve until any hint of injury of pain have completely healed, don't you understand? The Sox do this because Reinsdorf's cheap, Getz is inept, and HISTORY. Not believing this makes us lemmings.
