Sox have to avoid using Richards as a closer. Any closer that walks two with a three run lead should forfeit that role.

Have had some tough opponents/starters since the ASB: @TOR, @TEX, HOU, NYY, @TBR, @BOS, CLE. Finished 11-11. I take that every day.

Except for five blown leads in the Red Sox game. And two more blown 3/5 run leads as well.

I’ve had to walk away from numerous games the last few weeks out of frustration, anxiety, whatever you want to call it. Just enough to reduce my stress levels. I probably watched the same number of games the last few years (though fewer innings, I’m sure), but 3 years of 100+ losses almost made me forget what it’s like to be a baseball fan.

Not sure he counted on Cade Smith wiping out the offense there at the end...but should have at least considered the possibility.

I'd much rather use Richards in the 8th against 678 in the order than in the 9th against 912.

Bullpen had to cover 8 innings today and was fucking nails for the most part and has been for a while.

The 9th is different. Everyone knows that.

He was using his best relievers to hold Cleveland at bay and hoping the offense would make it a less pressure packed 9th as opposed to using Richards earlier, giving up a run(s) and making the 9th dicier for whoever.

Same could be said for Grant who's about 30 years younger; and he'd perform better. It was a curious choice with the top of the order up and no game tomorrow.
