  2. Agreed. Vargas doesn't become a FA until 2030, at which time any long-term deal would almost certainly bring us into the Ishbia ownership era since he secures the option to buy the team in 2034 (vs. it being Jerry's option to sell from 2029-33).
  3. That's a Home Run call. On the level of Benetti's "Palk Smash!" Hawk's "Put it on the board.....Yes!" Is iconic. When playing fast pitch as kids, we'd yell "Hey Hey!!" For a home run. It's not easy.
  4. Gonna have to deal some for some controllable arms
  5. That’s because the last 20 years were all under Reinsdorf’s reign of terror. It’s a different equation now with Ishbia being the light at the end of the tunnel. Trading arguably the second best hitter on the team when the team is in the middle of a competitive window is not something they should do and I don’t believe they will do.
  6. The payroll should have plenty of room to grow next year. We have like $70M committed for five guys (Castillo, Murakami, Benitendi, Hicks, & Kay) plus three arb guys in Vargas, Doyle, & Brazoban. Everyone else is pre-arb for at least one more season. Not a ton of needs either. Adding a high-end SP is a must. A leverage reliever would be nice, especially if Newcomb departs. Other than that, you’re mostly looking at bench pieces and maybe a swing man…which are low cost things. This offseason is the time to spend big on a SP. And if they can’t turn Schultz or one of the other young arms into a quality starter, they will likely have to trade for one at some point too. That’s where the positional depth comes into play.
  7. Chicago YIMBYSoil Sampling Rig Spotted At 14th Street Yard, Potential...Could be nothing, or it could be something, but a soil sampler was spotted last week at Amtrak's 14th Street rail yard in the South Loop, a potential site for a new baseball park for the Chicago WhiteI can see I’m late to the party in terms of the news regarding the Amtrak funds coming through, but I can drop this brief article here. Evidently, Ishbia is checking all his boxes. The McCaskeys could certainly take notes.
  8. it's fun, it's stupid, it's awesome. all things being equal, best night at the ballpark every season. Go early and embrace The King
  9. Today

  10. I went like 20 something years ago. Some woman yelled at my mom (who was/is a mild Elvis fan) and I for not getting overwhelmingly into it (we didn't know it was happening, just went for the game) because of everything Elvis had done for us. Still trying to figure out what Elvis has done for us.
  11. Ha! There was some promotion involving dominos (the game) and Schriff took the opportunity to mention how cool it is to go to the Dominican, praising the music and culture, with the men everywhere playing dominos in public and slamming the bones left and right. Stoney said the only dominos he knows is the pizza. W for the Schriff dog. If you’ve ever learned to play dominos, his description sounds incredible. If you’re an old, incorrigible white dude who hates his biracial partner, you bring up the pizza. Bad look for the Stone Pony.
  12. Ishbia clearly has an incredibly strong and imaginative team pulling all the right levers and running down every possible lead to get what Justin wants on the best terms possible. It’s really eye-opening to watch this whole thing progress to better understand how the “game” is played by these multi-billion dollar investment firms.
  13. Seems like as good of place to ask this as any. Anyone been to Elvis Night? My son and I are going (he’s 20). Is it fun? Is it stupid? Should we get there early to check out all the Elvii?
  14. They're going to have to trade some of them for pitching. It's great having all this infield depth and talent, but the pitching depth is garbage. We're going to have to part with some good players or prospects for starting pitching.
  15. That's why I said super sub.
  16. As someone who missed the game, I would love to hear more context or info about the dominos conversation
  17. He’s horrible for a losing team. He’s great for a winning team. I love the energy, almost as much as I love Stoney hating his guts (the dominos conversation today was money lol).
  18. GreenSox replied to BamaDoc's topic in FutureSox Board
    He's got a .346 WHIP - I don't think I've ever seen one that low.
  19. I agree, but someone has to move or get traded, etc. I guess trade is better than a devaluation. They can improve on margins positionally, but they really need a couple of starters (and some good pitching prospects). I presume they will sign a starter this offseason (and not the usual 5th starter type). 25 per with a lot deferred was a bargain for Cease last year.
  20. Whole lot of division games left against the 3 teams chasing us. Just keep taking it series by series. Dude catches a lot of s%*#, but if one thing was clear from his time at Barstool, it’s that he’s a ball knower. His tipping his cap to Getz is quite a compliment. He’s right…this offense is relentless.
  21. Astros lose. Sox 3 games up on them for 2-seed.
  22. With all due respect, it's most of the last 20 years that. have been insane. This time, let's try staying consistently competitive.
  23. You can do that if you have the resources to sign top FAs (of course then you could extend Vargas) and/or you have a top tier farm. Otherwise, the Sox are just asking for 2 years good, 5 years bad cycle (or worse).
  24. Miguel Vargas has so much vrill that entire teams yield to him in fear.
  25. That is an argument. But the couple I've seen that look exactly like that aren't "Romo sucks at challenges." He may suck at challenges, but he has also used a couple to slow the game down. It's either that, pretend pitchCom doesn't work, let the pitch hit you in the balls or phantom dust in the eye. He watches out for his pitchers. Maybe in a way Quero doesn't.
  26. This made my day! We're all guilty, and ultimately we all love it!
  27. Keep the young starting position players we have until another player demonstrates that they are better. Doyle is an example of a player Getz acquired after panicking about Peters slump....but he may not be as good as Peters, even in a platoon role. The Sox have several young position players that are learning the game at the same time. This is a special team, one that we have never seen on the South side before.
