  2. The gopher balls don't hurt as much if you don't walk guys and give extra outs before the gopher balls.
  3. Bad luck with the wet field in the first inning and infield seemed to affect Vargas and Colson, but those plays have to be made. Meidroth had a couple head scratchers too, one leading to the 3 run inning and that stupid glove flip late that could have opened the door had Gonzo not been alert. And of course Teal had a number of issues the entire series. Lets hope he's just a little rusty behind the dish as so far him and the staff are doing nothing to shut down any opponent's run game.
  4. Jake replied to BamaDoc's topic in FutureSox Board
Any idea why Charlotte pinch hit for Edgar last night? Hard to believe it was performance given that his pinch hitter seems to be a non-hitting org soldier.
  5. To argue that they don't need to use 1-1 on another SS.
  6. SEVEN factoids today: July 6, 1933 - The first ever All-Star Game was played at Comiskey Park. The Sox won a coin flip with the Cubs for the right to host the game that was the idea of Chicago Tribune sports editor Archie “Arch” Ward. It was played in connection with the Chicago World’s Fair which started in May along the lakefront. The A.L. won the game 4-2 thanks to a home run by “Babe” Ruth in the third inning off of Bill Hallahan. The Sox representatives in that first game were Jimmy Dykes (3B) and Al Simmons (OF). Dykes who’d later go on to manger the team, scored the first ever All-Star run. July 6, 1954 - Virgil “Fire” Trucks threw a one-hitter at Detroit beating the Tigers 4-0. It would be the second one-hitter thrown by Trucks in a little over two months. On May 1 he beat Boston at Fenway Park, 3-0 with a one-hitter. In this game the only hit he allowed came in the third inning when Harvey Kuenn singled to center. He’d strike out eight in the game. For the season Trucks would go 19-12 with an ERA of 2.79 and he’d save the All-Star game in Cleveland for the American League. July 6, 1983 - The Golden Anniversary All-Star Game was held at Comiskey Park which hosted for the third time. The A.L. mangled the N.L.13-3 stopping their 11-game losing streak. Chicago native Fred Lynn, of the Angels, got the game’s first ever grand slam, off the Giants Atlee Hammaker who’d later go on to pitch for the Sox. Ron Kittle (OF), who’d go on to win the Rookie of the Year Award, got an infield single in the game in the seventh inning and scored a run. He was the Sox lone representative. July 6, 1999 - Chris Singleton became the first Sox rookie to ever hit for the cycle when he turned the trick against Kansas City. The Sox would lose the game however, 8-7 in 10 innings. Chris went 5 for 6 with three runs scored and four RBI’s. Singleton would later go on to be a Sox broadcaster for a short period of time. July 6, 2007 - The Minnesota Twins scored 32 runs and hammered eight home runs in a day/night twin bill at U.S. Cellular Field winning 20-14 and 12-0. It was a low point for a franchise that was World Series champions less than two years earlier. Jon Garland and Gavin Floyd took the losses. July 6, 2021 - The unbelievable injury run continued to plague the White Sox. Catcher Yasmani Grandal became the 15th different player and fourth key starter to go on the disabled list for the club with only a little more than half the season played. He was diagnosed with a torn tendon in his left knee suffered the night before in Minnesota on a checked swing. A few days earlier in Detroit he took himself out of the game with a tight calf muscle in the same leg. At the time he was among the club leaders in home runs, on-base percentage and among the league leaders in walks. After a stint on the IL he came back to put up impressive numbers finishing the season with 23 home runs and 62 RBI’s. In a game against the Cubs on August 27 he’d tie the team record driving in eight runs in the Sox 17-13 win. July 6, 2021 – Later that same night with the Sox needing something positive, pitcher Carlos Rodon, having an All-Star season, gave it to them. The left hander kept the Twins in check for six innings allowing one run, striking out eight as the Sox got a badly needed win 4-1. With the eight strikeouts Rodon tied a club record first set by Juan Pizarro back in 1961, with eight or more strikeouts in nine straight starts.
  7. I really do think Gray having a NTC and costing a lot of money will reduce his cost. The only change is that the Braves could really use another SP and they will also be super attractive to Sonny.
  8. I have to admit a bias against high school prospects. I understand the metrics and so on about youth and upside so I'm not actually against a strategy that emphasizes high schoolers. But as a fan who wants to have an opinion about specific players, I just find it very difficult to know whether Grady Emerson is going to be good. It's harder to see him play and it's really hard to evaluate the level of competition. These are obviously problems that affect the MLB scouts looking at him too but they have more resources and such. So it's hard for me to have a strong opinion on Emerson without relying a lot on what other people say. This isn't fair at all but he also seems un-charismatic to me in interviews and watching him on the field. Roch entered the year in pole position and I don't think he really lost it but he also didn't run away with it either. I think there's a bit under the hood to suggest he improved as a player but you could argue part of that rests on last year's production being perhaps overheated/fake/whatever. I believe in some players being safer bets than others but I don't really believe anybody is truly a safe bet. Would you be shocked if Roch Cholowsky initially posts a .650 OPS in high A?
  9. Sonny Gray and Aroldis Chapman just seems too perfect in terms of needs and commitment to players
  10. I don't know really the answer here, which makes me lean to 'cut a deal', but there's no obvious deal. I'd be happiest with Roch, and am just sanguine on Emerson. For a hs shortstop, i'd prefer some louder athletic tools. I am just gonna hope it works out.
  11. Disappointing doesn’t mean bad though. Obviously you want to see a player to continue ascending, but his sophomore season was really fucking good. And none of that takes into account a plus defensive profile at SS. I still think Roch will be the pick, but I trust Shirley to make the right pick. I just hope the front office doesn’t overrule him and force him to go with the college player if they do in fact prefer Emerson.
  12. Too expensive. At that point, just make McDougal your closer and the keep the other prospects it would take to get Miller.
  13. Today
  14. Shut your god damn mouth. Studlin will be back soon and better than ever.
  15. Of course, I lost my draft expert aura when I was against the Sox picking Mike Trout. With that said, I still wish we knew if Lackey could play CF
  16. Yea. I'm fine with any of the top 3. I just have a slight preference. I actually trust what they are doing on the development side for hitters. Whoever they pick I'm fully on board with. I'm just a dummy posting on a message board.
  17. MLBTV had a brief discussion on Miller yesterday, asking the same question.
  18. Nice! Many gurus can tell you when to buy though few will say when to sell. Heck not only may they be wrong, it probably pisses off their sources. I also like "no one went broke taking a profit".
  19. With Roch not improving a lot vs Soph year there is probably a little more fear that he may be closer to his max than if he had a better year. Emerson moved to what might have been weaker HS comp and thus at three years younger, you can think there is room for more improvement. The question could be if Emerson doesn't greatly improve is it because the development people failed or the scouts were wrong on ceiling? You will never know.
  20. I learned a phrase when I work in the pits in Chicago, and it was "people who pick bottoms get s%*# on their fingers". Also again, the ETF space is a god send to the modern investor. The VAST majority of your retirement money should be in an SP 500 fund, whether that is the mutual fund offered by your broker, or the SPY/DIA type ETFs which mimic the Dow and SP. There is a 99.9% chance that you will fail at trying to beat the SP500 over your lifetime. Just buy it and hold it.
  21. I just wonder if the Sox don’t pick Roch, will some on here finally admit he had a disappointing junior season? Ironically, I’m fine if they do pick him. Emerson is the overwhelming favorite though IMO.
  22. CityFan Jr. and I will be in the house Wednesday night! Great split. I was very frustrated Thursday and Friday with those outcomes, but man this team just picks themselves up and digs deep when they need to. The entire series was a +1 RDIFF for the Sox. Just very competitive. Sometimes I think myself (and a lot of us) live and die with every game almost with a CFB and NFL mentality. 12 or 17 games makes every game a must win…and baseball is different, even playing against a division rival with whom you’re battling for the top of the division. We’ve gone from a win being nice to a win being the expectation and that shifts the mindset of fans. Let’s go 4-2 minimum this week and into the break on a huge positive note!
  23. Might be cope, but I feel the less we hear a player connected to the Sox the better. Thus Lackey is the pick. 🙂
  24. They still have another Naylor in the org just waiting to drive us insane
  25. Why in the world would Chuck tweet that a week before the Sox pick #1
  26. Yeah, this is literally a once in a generation opportunity. It sounds like a very good draft year with 3 guys in the running for a solid 1.1 pick. All things being equal, I'd rather not use the pick for a HS player unless he's a Bryce Harper/B Witt Jr-level generational talent. I don't know who I want them to pick, I just hope they totally nail this pick. Totally whiffing on #3 and #4 overall in recent years really stings....and perhaps whiffing with taking Smith #5 overall over some players already finding success. But we can't flop with the #1 overall pick. Also, the rest of the draft is a great opportunity for the Sox and this is a good chance to have some success beyond the 1:1. I'm eager to see who they select after the 1st round.
  27. Friday Night is already sold out. It's Mexican Heritage Night which is always a crazy fun night at the park.
