I feel like this a battle between two teams who, for different reasons live on the margins and have little room for error. Which is why I think Cleveland have regressed from previous years. I will say that I think our living on the margins is a bit more sustainable due to our ability to hit home runs. We can probably get away with an error or two occasionally. Cleveland's implosions this past week have come from things like bad fielding and base running errors. They don't have the firepower to get away with this.

I just looked this up but our effective number is 15. Which I guess is the analytical version of the elimination number. So it account for likely outcomes in head to head matchups. Not sure it's worth doing a player tribute for but if this makes people feel better... the end is in sight.

There's always a good number of tailgaters in Lot G. I don't know about other lots because I always park in G. There's no doubt that tailgating is a thing at Rate Field, but i really couldn't tell you how many fans out of all attendees tailgate. If it's 1,000 fans - that looks like a lot of people in the parking lots, but if attendance is 25k, then that's only 4% of the fans. So, I'd guess it's not a huge % of fans, but it's probably a core group of diehards who attend many games. I don't know if there's a way to keep some amount of tailgating if they move to the South Loop. That would be ideal, but it would have to be scaled down since there's no way they're going to have 40 acres of surface lots like they have now. With so many transit options there, they'd have fewer drivers anyway. Not "no drivers", but fewer drivers for sure. You're absolutely right about the lack of things to do around the ballpark and that's a problem because many fans today are looking to do more than just drive in traffic, park, see the game, and then just go right back home. This isn't the 60s or 70s anymore.

SEVEN factoids today: September 9, 1917 - It’s the only time the Sox have ever won a forfeited game. In Chicago against Cleveland, the Indians were protesting a close interference call that went against them in the top of the 10th inning of a tie game at 3-3. The game was delayed for 10 minutes while they argued. When they took the field in the last of the inning, Cleveland players threw their gloves in the air, some rolled around in the dirt and catcher Steve O’Neill deliberately threw a ball into center field. Umpire Clarence “Brick” Owens had enough and declared the game won by the Sox. September 9, 1921 - At Comiskey Park, the White Sox and Tigers played one of the wildest games in Major League history in Chicago’s 20-15 win. Both teams combined for 35 runs, 42 hits and seven errors! The White Sox were led by first baseman Earl Sheely, who went 5 for 5 with five runs scored, five RBIs and fell a double short of a cycle. (Sheely’s was the only homer for the 35-run game.) Johnny Mostil chipped in with four RBI’s. Perhaps most amazing is the fact that the 35 runs were all scored in the first seven innings of the game; the full eighth inning and top of the ninth all were scoreless. September 9, 1931 – At the cross-city exhibition game between the Cubs and White Sox at Comiskey Park a famous, or infamous fan and his son sat along the White Sox side of the field in the front row. The fan was Al Capone, the head of the largest crime syndicate in Chicago known as the “Chicago Outfit.” He took in the game with his son and a number of bodyguards who were seated directly behind them. September 9, 2003 - With one move Sox manager Jerry Manuel perhaps cost his team a post season playoff berth and eventually led himself to be fired. In a game the Sox were leading Minnesota 8-2 in the ninth inning, Manuel brought in relief pitcher Jose Paniagua to get some work in. The Sox had a one game lead over the Twins and this was the second of a four-game series at U.S. Cellular Field. Paniagua allowed four runs giving Minnesota momentum even though they’d lose 8-6. For me, the anxiety is setting in and this game instilled a deep fear that they've hit the proverbial wall. Zero reason they look the way they did tonight coming out of a day off. Burke needed to have his stuff and preserve the pen arms at least somewhat, instead he gets shelled and the pen needs to be called up in the fucking 2nd. That doesn't bode well this early in the week. This team has stayed relatively even-keeled, and you have to hope it remains, but they've lived on the edge for a while, and it only takes a few bad breaks for the even-keel to go into a flat out slump, a slump they 100% CANNOT afford right now. Supremely paranoid? Yeah most likely, but this is officially a division race of inches and they can't afford any sort of foul ups.

The way I see this going is we all are on suicide watch during the PIT and STL series, tied for the division or maybe even down a game by the CLE series. Win 1, maybe 2 there. Then we finish strong and pound the Tigers, Royals and Rockies.

Oh I can. Like, seriously. Not having your best stuff is one thing. Giving up 7 runs in 1.1 innings is the type of s%*# that gets pitchers demoted.

One win in Cleveland, assuming we still have a lead like we do now pretty much ends it.

I think the last wild card is probably gonna get 82 or 83 wins. So if we go something like 7-11 the rest of the way, I can totally see us slipping out of that if Texas or Toronto get hot.
