8/24 White Sox vs Rangers: Urquidy vs Rocker 6:40 PM
Are we sure they're going to be down a man tonight?

8/24 White Sox vs Rangers: Urquidy vs Rocker 6:40 PM
I'm guessing it's an end of life situation and a bit fluid. I'm hard on the Sox for playing short but I can't be upset at this one.

Is It Time To Call Up Bonemer?
Sick!

I guess not a big deal but why not do this today? Why play down a man?

Somebody on Twitter said Benintendi. No idea how reliable the poster was.

Sox acquire Brenton Doyle - trade Adams and Carlos Vielma (SS)
He said they suggested a tweak to his hands/stance, which is something that can bear relatively quick fruit like with Vargas last season and Gonzo in the minors this year. But overall he hasn't really gotten much playing time to evaluate him on. I suspect Getz and co. were concerned about Peters' slump lingering on which would have potentially opened up more CF ABs for a guy with a high defensive floor there, but Peters has picked it back up since. Doyle did have that 110mph lineout vs. Manaea and his BABIP is low enough (.231) to suggest some bad luck, so time will tell.

It's exactly the kind of move you make with spring training in front of you, not behind you

Yeah good point. I don't think he's giving our team anything this year.

If they manage to crush the union, I bet they take advantage of the depressed market. If things stay largely the same, probably not.

Most of the guys I mentioned they can probably get for around that or less per year, at least based on some of the projected AAV numbers I've seen

I was just talking to his season specifically. Maybe some offseason work and adjustment helps Doyle for next year

I will be absolutely stunned if they sign anyone outside the organization for more than 25 mil this offseason

I think Doyle's ceiling is relatively high and his floor is negative WAR and unplayable. If he's a league average hitter and keeps up the defensive work, that's worth 4 WAR (ie his 2024 season). If he can OPS the same .764 he did in Colorado while hitting 20+ bombs, ~115 OPS+ or so, that's an easy all-star. Will he ever reach those numbers again? I dunno, maybe. With Brazoban and Castillo I agree with you though.

Is It Time To Call Up Bonemer?
He's below average according to statcast. The Sox know Bonemer's defensive ability better than anybody. I'd imagine if he is passable at SS, he'll be a decent 3B. Where else could they play Bonemer when he is ready? They could really use a good right-handed bat, and he looks like he'll mash. I guess they could DH him if they really want. Seems like a waste though. The only problem I can envision is Vargas not wanting to move off 3B. Hopefully he doesn't make a scene about it.

Adams would be a project as well, and isn’t nearing retirement.

Experience in a pennant race and subsequent playoffs means something.

Bad expectations is a crazy statement. If we weren't to expect anything, why did they trade for them in the first place?

4 Starts. Handled Cincy. 2 games - Boston and the Cubs, two very good offenses (Red Sox on a historical tear) - 4 and 4.2 innings. Got clobbered by the Mets. They picked him up as a project. We'll see how the changes they're making take over a few more starts.

THATS ANOTHER WALK OFF WHITE SOX WINNER
Such a common misconception that someone once made a stat just to refute it: HRs account for a higher percentage of scoring in the postseason than they do in the regular season, so "live and die by the HR" offenses retain more production than "get 'em over, get 'em in" lineups. Hitting more HRs than your opponent is one of the stronger win predictors in general, and even more so in October.

Bad expectations that just one of the four players he acquired would play better with the Sox than their previous team? Wow…

Sox acquire Brenton Doyle - trade Adams and Carlos Vielma (SS)
He'd better not be. Skubal is almost certainly staying with the Dodgers (unless they can't afford him given their recent money and legal woes), but even if not I doubt the Sox would pay him 50+ mil/yr or whatever he'll get. The second tier has some guys worth considering though, like Michael King (opt out), Jose Berrios, Casey Mize and Shota Imanaga. Then grab a reclamation project or two and I'd feel pretty good.

Castillo to Sox for Dominguez, Boston Smith, Nolan Jones per Passan
Dominguez for Castillo was the trade. Seattle had been trying to dump Castillo for months. What is Getz trading for pitchers with 5+ERAs and sub .600 OPS for anyway? Getz really needs an experienced assistant to deal with these GMs; he's consistently overpaying for these waiver-wire talents that the other GMs are overtly trying to dump

I tend to agree given the labor uncertainty and all the unknowns for next year. Plus we know JR's philosophy towards pitching.

Also helps when almost everyone in your bullpen has a career year.
