I was watching the Dodgers last night and they kept saying how that was his last start most likely. I immediately got nervous it meant the Sox would go after him.

And no, Bannister's job is not to develop arms. He's director of pitching. Setting the team philosophy of what type of pitchers to pursue based on what the team wants to invest, or what statistical traits to look for to find "market inefficiencies" that they can easily work with. You seem to be leaning into this "blame" framing. I'd expect that sort of argument from that crying child from yesterday's game, but only when he's really tired and hungry.

Venable sometimes goes overboard on lefty- righty matchups. Sometimes you have to go with the hot hand.- Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
I’m not arguing your point, but I think it can be assumed that Bannister talks to Getz and makes suggestions on pitchers that he would like to work with or that he thinks he can makes some tweaks to improve their game, if they were acquired.- Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
No, Getz's job is to manage the interaction between scouting and development. It's shorthand to say that "Banny's got a type". Sorry if that confuses you. I would imagine scouting and "Banny" are on the same page in that the scouts already know what our developmental strengths and preferences are, and they're making sure dudes look healthy and as advertised. There are entire departments that run numbers on everyone in the league, and asst-GMs who get all the trade talk started. Getz delegates. That's how he ends up announcing that Acuña's a switch hitter. Seriously, if you think that Chris Getz is sitting in the stands of a game in Rancho Cucamonga with a radar gun, you're not even clearing the low bar you've established for your posts.- Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
Who gives a s%*# who gets the "credit". From what we've been told or has leaked Getz's biggest strength is not worrying about credit and simply letting his folks get the job done to the best of their abilities. If Bannister isn't getting it down, he'll be replaced sooner or later. For now it's a moot point. He's not getting let go during the home stretch here and he will have input.- Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
Of course. RubRub is so bored of his own shtick, he's not even really trying, anymore. I'd be fine if he gets clever and Urquidy becomes ace of the staff. Just win, baby.- Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
I've said this before, but Bannisters job is to develop arms. Getz job is to identify talent that aligns with Bannister's strengths, not to have Bannister tell him who to acquire. Bannister isn't in the talent identification game, he's in the talent development game. Those two things are different skills IMO. Let's properly distribute credit and blame where it aligns.- 7/29 Games
I thought it was blasphemy but someone else said it too in another minor league game thread: it's a very Mike Trout swing. I see he also has 3 SB in AA so far. Hopefully indicates he's athletic enough to handle a corner OF if it comes to that.- The Day after the Non-Ron GameThread: White Sox vs Yankees 1:10 CDT Burke Vs Weathers
I’m really tired of lineups that don’t include Sam and Colson in them. Both of those guys are everyday players in my book. Grich, Acuna, and Everson… prove me wrong!- The Day after the Non-Ron GameThread: White Sox vs Yankees 1:10 CDT Burke Vs Weathers
I know you.- Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
Colson is one of our best hitters against LHP and is a top 8 SS in the game at 24 with one year experience. Nobody is trading him, including the WS, because you might have Roch in 2028.- Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
That's fine if you want to trade him after his arb years are up, but I want his elite value in those years. There's no guarantee Bonemer does anything at the MLB level, I'm not banking on that and would much rather trade him than Colson, who we already know is a top 5 SS in the sport.- Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
Well, I assume Getz is acquiring pitchers that Bannister suggests to him. In any case, I have a feeling no one is going to be very happy with the scrubs Getz manages to acquire by the deadline. Prices are too high.- Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
Why do you claim that Bannister is acquiring pitchers? Getz is acquiring pitchers. Thats his job.- Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
Lauer was literally released this year. He's old and washed. This wouldnt even be an improvement. It would be like adding another Fedde.- Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
@Bad Hombre correctly points out that we already have that guy. Lauer's certainly a fallback arm in case prices spike, and he bumps Schultz.- Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
Lauer was pretty good last year, but he's giving up 2 HR/9 this year.- Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
Dodgers get Skubal...we get...Eric Lauer?- What is your trade deadline prediction?
Yeah, I think Getz acquires all the stuff they're saying he's going to, but it's all going to inspire "who dat?" responses. I think the leaks about the Sox being aggressive are meant to temper mid-dude asks. "You want Bonemer for Detmers? If I was going to trade Bonemer, I could have Skubal."- Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
Well, it ties into Banny's philosophy - strikeouts cost money. That's a very cheap guy who throws ground balls. Not saying I want him, but Banny's got a type.- 7/30 Games

Angels send us 75 million and Mike Trout for some A ballers. Who says no? Could be similar to the Rios move in impact. 75 million takes his AAV to roughly 19 million for the Sox, that's more than affordable. - The Day after the Non-Ron GameThread: White Sox vs Yankees 1:10 CDT Burke Vs Weathers
