  2. Colson looked like he was a bust before he went to AZ last year. Then he came up and was awesome the last half of the season. This year he was doing great and then he went south. He has the bat speed and tools; it's almost like he needs a 6-month checkup like to get straighten out.
  3. Or what will be higher, his batting average or his strikeout total. The thing that is bothering me is for a guy who whiffs as much as he does, usually on a high fastball, he seems perplexed as to how it could possibly happen.
  4. It does seem they are playing a lot more games recently like most of us thought they would play this season. Then they sprinkle in some magical finishes. I hope they make it, but wouldn't be surprised if the pitching doesn't allow it to happen.
  5. Poll should be: What day will Colson break the single season strikeout record?
  6. I think they win the division by 4 games with an 86-76 record. And will get the #2 seed. This team seems to get amped up to play teams within their division. Kind of think each series against our divisional rivals is where we end them.
  7. I think they've hit a wall. They need a reset. Colson needs a reset and Murakami as well. I feel they are pressing. The starting pitching trying to be too fine is suffering. All in all they've had a good season. I don't think anybody had this on their bingo card. I just hope Uncle Scrooge doesn't f*** this rebuild like he did the last by not wanting to invest. And I don't mean dumpster diving. I think the fans have shown if the team is good they come out, so that should not be an excuse
  8. Gosh I hope so, because unless some pitching magically appears, it will be tougher next year
  9. Cleveland is the main concern because of their easy schedule and good pitching. I think they have a good shot to take the division lead, unless the Sox do more than tread water and start stringing wins together. Going to be tough to do that with their pitching though. Hopefully they can pickup a fresh-ish arm from the waiver wire and Thorpe can come up and give a couple good starts to allow them to string some wins together.
  10. I still think they make the playoffs - but I can see the toll this recent stretch has had on them. Still - they basically had a .500 week last week and they had the lead in every Cubs game late (only one 1)...so reality is they treaded water but could have easily had a few more wins (in fairness every game was tight so they could have had a few more L's). Yesterday was almost an off game given we didn't waste any of the premier arms...but they really could use a hot week or so with the bats and arms...would do wonders right now to find ways to get some guys rest(s) etc. Lets start a new winning streak today!

  12. Adam Dunn as a plus defensive shortstop is a hall of famer - just to be clear - and this is coming from someone who was not a big Adam Dunn fan. For past 1-2 months though, he has been White Sox Adam Dunn vs. Reds version. We need the Reds version at the plate. I think the tool(s) and talent are there, but he's a streaky guy who when he gets into a funk he gets into it bad. I think in time he'll figure out how to better stay out of those issues - but unfortunately he isn't there yet.
  13. The other big difference is that Colson is 24 years old and has only a little more than 1 season under his belt. Dunn was 32 when the Sox signed him and, as typical for the Sox, on the edge of a huge drop off in production. We'll see if Montgomery can make adjustments.
  14. This is why you draft shortstops. If you need to move them to a different position it is a lot easier to do. HS SS are almost always the most athletic player on the team. If he can play a league average CF that would be awesome.
  15. I think they make the playoffs only as a function of how bad the American League is this year. I mean, it would not surprise me at all if they fall below .500, but this year is a huge success for the development of the team (and an expected one to some) if they win 78 games. I only wish they'd gone after a stud SP in free agency last year because the next class isn't quite as good. Still some decent options, but would've been nice to get somebody like Ranger or Framber.
  16. A lot of this is driven by all the time Will refused to drop him down in the line-up. He's still too high, coming up to bat with runners on way too often.
  17. Looks like everyone is getting tired. It's been a long stretch with no days off. Send down Richards. Is there any more to be had from his 91 MPH 4-seamer. Schweizter too - this guy's one of our better pitching prospects and his 4-seamer sits at 92? Come on. Bring up Sandlin.
  18. I always love these types of stats. “The team does better when the individual players have better stats.” Well no s%*#. Thanks for the hard-hitting analysis.
  19. I am sure he is smart enough to realize if he can't pitch or catch, the quickest way to Sox Park is center field.
  20. Supposedly he shocked with huge home to first times in the futures game, so maybe that changed their minds.
  21. Don't think he has the speed to be a plus defender in center. Maybe he gets really good jumps. Guess we'll see.
  22. One also plays high level defense at the most important defensive position on the field. The other is Adam Dunn.
