  1. Past hour

  2. Like death and taxes.
  3. Eminem in 8 Mile over here.
  4. Many cling to the Zeno's Paradox myth of onboarding statistical analysis. Like, The Sox are 15 years behind. By the time they catch up, everybody will have moved onto to the next frontier. That is, unless you hire their guys, quickly put the resources in place without having to make the years of mistakes and adjustments the early adopters had to, then pivoting to embracing the cutting-edge stuff simultaneously.
  5. People say lots of things. Taylor is not a starter. Hagan Smith can’t be brought up because he can’t throw strikes in the minors.
  6. There was some snarking when Sox hired a "mental performance" coach, but there seems to be something there. Think the guy they hired was poached from the Mariners, whose vibes have gone in the opposite direction. Getz also cites makeup and chemistry for almost all of his player acquisitions now, and you of course need a manager capable of reading the room and building a culture.
  7. Yo Caulfield dropping bars
  8. tray and bad takes, name a more iconic duo
  9. They could get a haul; and if the Sox still figure Taylor as a reliever, they probably should go get that haul. But hopefully, Taylor starts dominates. It would be great if H Smith could do the same; but I haven't seen anything about him that suggests starter (under the definition of giving you at least 5 innings, but preferably 6+)
  10. Today

  11. I know this is best to death but the Brewers don’t have enough pop to win consistently in the post-season. It’s hard to manufacture runs against one pitcher after another throwing at max effort. I want them to win but I think the Padres win this series. Happy to be wrong.
  12. So weird having Sox baseball in October putting my normal AFL watch on the back burner... 😅 The Sox reps in Glendale: IF/OF Caleb Bonemer 1B Anthony DePino IF Colby Shelton C Grant Magill RHP Mathias Lacombe RHP Pierce George RHP Nick Altermatt RHP Jonathan Clark RHP Garrett Wright 4 of last year's AFL participants are currently on the ALDS roster: Braden Montgomery, Hagen Smith, Tyler Davis, and Sam Antonacci Bonemer is already off to a hot start: 2-5 with a 2B and 3 RBI in his debut yesterday, 2-2 so far today with another double and RBI.
  13. One of the journalists criticizing the Red Sox the other day said that the Red Sox are no longer on the cutting edge of analytics due to overlooking things like happiness and chemistry. Believe it or not, these intangibles are starting to make their way into the study of advanced analytics. White Sox, Rays, and Brewers have been in the cutting edge of this stuff in recent years when it comes to looking at these intangibles through metrics and analytics.
  14. Brewers playing some uncharacteristic defense there. Pivotal game if SD wants to come back at home.
  15. He had one bad start. Will has said they are being uber cautious with him due to the calf injury.
  16. It's funny how a happy, young team will mean everything to everyone.
  17. If he had any actual arm strength he would be. There's just no zip on his throws so he can't make any placement or timing mistakes. His pocket presence and foot work are both really good, but he just doesn't have the tools to keep a defense honest.
  18. I think the play is to rest Hagen and Taylor so they can run back the Game 1 plan on Game 3. Fedde and Newcomb can fill those roles in Game 2.
  19. I think the point of all of this is that the Sox aren't really following any template of "starters" and "closers". Reading Bannister interviews, he has stressed that strikeouts cost money, so under Reinsdorf, they'll probably try to get the most out of soft contact, and bring along their 53 college IP, "stuff" guys as bullpen arms and openers.
  20. Fedde coming in and ripping 99 for an inning would also be okay.
  21. He’s gonna get a receiver killed.
  22. Fedde has reverse splits. .699 OPS against lefties, .808 against righties. Give Fedde some burn!
  23. Kay/Burke/Newcomb/Fedde That's the combo I'd look for tomorrow. If the Sox can win Game 2 without burning Hagen and Taylor, that's a massive advantage heading into game 3.
  24. Love me some Sandlin, but lefties have an .821 OPS against him. He dominates righties but gets hit hard by lefties. I'd be nervous using him against the Guardians for multiple innings.
