  1. Past hour
  2. No, it’s not a very good free agent class. Go get Alonso though. f*** it. Next year should be better than this year but I still wouldn’t expect them to be competitive.
  3. He was on Conan O'Brien's podcast somewhat recently with Dave Grohl and Krist Noveselic talking about engineering Nirvana's In Utero His earlier stuff is also covered pretty heavily in the book/audiobook "Our Band Could Be Your Life" about the rise of the indie rock underground in the 80's that paved the way for the "alt rock" commercial success in the 90's. I think he toned down the Gen X edgelord contrarianism he was known for in his earlier days, but he was always a prickly asshole (in a good way). Very firm stance on the ethics regarding the music industry and royalties. Famously never took any and only charged his hourly rate to record and engineer an album.
  4. Not really a comparable situation given how much projected surplus value Q had at the time relative to his salary.
  5. It's funny cause Rick Hahn was in the same boat with Quintana and got Cease and Eloy by holding onto Q.
  6. I believe they each signed for a base salary of $3 million. Unless they reach some of their incentives, Jerry is still in the green by $2 million from Getz dealing Cease. If Cease was still with the Sox, I don’t know that you could assume that Jerry would’ve approved Getz adding Clevinger and Pham for the additional $6 million.
  7. How do you think the Sox get all these amazing deals for veteran players?
  8. Today
  9. That's the key. I don't hold a guy like DeJong against the new front office because he was clearly a placeholder for a lost season. But they'll need to show they can identify position players in that price range you mentioned starting next year. The FA class doesn't excite me either but there are always guys. Let's say we find one 1B, DH, RF, 2B via deadline trade and then $40 mil to find the other three in this list. I don't think it makes the Sox contenders but they should be able to field a team that is respectable. First base: Paul Goldschmidt, Pete Alonso, Rhys Hoskins (opt-out), Anthony Rizzo (club option), Josh Bell, Rowdy Tellez, Christian Walker, Ryan O'Hearn, Carlos Santana Second base: Gleyber Torres, Brandon Lowe (club option), Ha-Seong Kim (mutual option), Whit Merrifield (club option), Wilmer Flores (player option/club option), Jorge Polanco (club option), Brandon Crawford, Brandon Drury, Adam Frazier (mutual option) Shortstop: Willy Adames, Tim Anderson, Miguel Rojas (club option), Amed Rosario, Paul DeJong, Garrett Hampson, Joey Wendle Outfield: Juan Soto, Cody Bellinger (opt-out), Alex Verdugo, Michael Conforto, Joey Gallo, Tyler O’Neill, Joc Pederson (mutual option), Anthony Santander, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (opt-out), Teoscar Hernández, Aaron Hicks, Andrew McCutchen, Kevin Kiermaier, Max Kepler, Harrison Bader, Mark Canha, Mitch Haniger (opt-out), Hunter Renfroe (player option), Manuel Margot (mutual option), Michael A. Taylor, Charlie Blackmon, Adam Duvall, Randal Grichuk (mutual option), Jason Heyward, Jurickson Profar
  10. Fedde has a FIP over 4.50 so I'd expect some regression. xFIP and ERA are close though.
  11. Fedde against Lively. White Sox current fWAR hitting leaders: De Bong .8 Moncada .3 Sheets .3 Big Dick Mendick .2 Lee .2 White Sox current fWAR hitting losers: Maldonado -1 Beni -1 Vaughn -.9 Shewmake -.6 White Sox current fWAR pitching leaders: Crochet .7 Banks .6 Fedde .4 Flexen .3 White Sox current fWAR pitching losers: Leone -.5 Soroka -.4 Wilson -.3 Shaw/Kopech/Clevinger/Garcia -.1
  12. There will certainly be money to spend. The challenge is twofold though. Are there enough quality free agents out there to sign and will we be the ones to win the sweepstakes. And I’m not talking about the Soto’s of the world, but the next couple tiers down. Last I checked, this upcoming class didn’t look great from a positional player perspective.
  13. Makes sense... and my point is they will have money to spend. When you have a CF, young pitching coming up, kids at 3B, SS, C, only one bad contract in Benitendi, and don't devote $90 million to a bunch of RPs, there's going to be money to spend... especially if you can trade Fedde, Kopech, etc. for, let's say, a future starter in RF.
  14. Like I said, I do remember numerous posters saying that they would hold onto Cease, if the trade offers weren’t good enough. This is definitely no hindsight BS. I was a wuss like Getz and was too worried he would get injured. But Getz was probably also pressured by JR to dump his $8 million salary.
  15. Sorry, you'll get Crochet, Nick Nastrini, Tanner Banks as an opener, Paul DeJong converted to a pitcher, and Clevinger.
  16. If he stays anywhere close to where he has been, he is as good as gone.
  17. I think there is zero chance that Fedde is here post trade deadline. He should probably be traded for a bat given how many holes we have currently. From my perspective, your 2025 rotation should be Crochet, three kids, and some sort of cheap vet in FA. The rest of our money needs to go to the offense.
  18. Now wait a second… You argued a few weeks back that the Sox weren’t as bad as their record indicated because it was too small of a sample size. Now you are using a small recent sample size to say that they are more than likely a .500 team? Wouldn’t it be more appropriate to use their entire 37 game record to judge them as a team, which is just 3 games away from being 25% of the entire season, which would also no longer be a small sample size?
  19. Also very encouraged about getting 7 of our 9 wins against two teams that are 6 games out of first in their respective divisions. I’m unzombied now this is great
  20. Yeah... I meant at the deadline or in the offseason if they think he will leave at the end of next year and they feel good about their ability to get pitching on FA market with Bannister, he could be dealt for prospect to fill an area of need and you can use that money to find the next Fedde.
  21. Really hope Burke can get something going, real bummer of a start so far. Poor mogollon, has not had a result that hasn't ended up in a catchers mit so far. 9 PAs, 8 Ks, 1 BB.
  22. The Sox are a .500 team in the last 12 games. A lot of Rays and Cardinals in there, but I think this was sort of the team we envisioned in ST.
  23. Leave Chris alone. He’s still trying to justify that Maldonado signing.
