  1. I would recommend Getz sniff around here. https://theathletic.com/4945317/2023/10/09/astros-split-assistant-gm-bill-firkus/ Dana Brown coming from the Braves is not just going to take over the same operation, so it makes sense. It should be a great opportunity to steal people from an org that has done an incredible job developing pitching, especially the pitchers that Marco Paddy apparently likes (Framber Valdez was an 18 year old signing for cheap, not 16 which is bad per JR) Now...why would you join chris getz and the white sox? Lol I don't know.

  2. I'm expecting either 6IP/10K or 3.1IP/6ER with basically no in between.

  3. I guess my same response is looking at this roster I could easily see a 2025 roster with like 70% turnover so Grifol's cosplay is fine. Bannister adding to the pitching development should help develop the nastrini's, etc. I wouldn't keep Grifol but the bigger impact is going to be made off the mlb roster so if they put more focus there, i'll take it. Basically bruce bochy being hired with little to no changes to our PD/Scouting in the minors is worse than keeping Grifol with wholesale changes on that side. But obviously because it is the white sox, no, we cannot have both. Never can do the normal things winning teams do.

  4. For me who is managing the dead-in-the-water team in 2024 is the least consequential hire. Getting a real operation in place for the minors/draft/scouting is going to be way more important to winning.

  5. Same fans, same owners. I will never root for them again. You could put every player I hate on a team, and I’d root for them against the Astros. They cheated and were then allowed to get away with it when discovered. They were even protected from in-game retribution from other teams. MLB basically punished everyone else in order not to punish the cheaters. I can’t stress it enough. f*** that team straight to hell.

  6. If my wife didn’t insist on having cable and 30 different streaming services, I would cut down to probably two or three streaming services and be happy. It would probably mean no more Sox games, but that’s fine. I still wear my straw boater hat to every game. I didn’t realize it went out of style.

  7. Those Orioles were right, they didn’t need pitching at the deadline. I hope all the prospect hugging was worth it.

  8. A smart likable owner can reverse four plus decades of decline under Reinsdorf and recapture or exceed a 50% Chicago fan base. At minimum a weekly Sunday game on WGN TV (dual simulcast with the cable channel), plus the entire 162 game schedule on WSNS (Telemundo) or WGBO (Univision) to regain exposure in the Chicago market, as other non televised teams lose relevancy in a cord cutting environment. Everybody is welcome back to enjoy games. Cash accepted at ticket windows & concession stands, paper tickets issued by the White Sox (season tickets mailed or box office in person) accepted in addition to phone tickets. Paper print at home are not accepted to prevent duplicate / fraud issues. Commit to staying at Comiskey Park with a 2-3 decade lease extension, pledge to use a portion of the windfall profits with the extended lease to: Sponsor White Sox youth leagues throughout Chicago (CPD ballparks + Suburbs including equipment and or league / umpire costs). Restore Veeck era school tickets for students (perfect attendance and/or A or B level grades). Make parking (all games) and concessions (at minimum, rotating select weeknight specials) affordable. Properly staff the stadium and security to prevent / intercede quickly to halt the violent brawls and gun violence plaguing the stadium this season. Rename the ballpark Comiskey Park or White Sox Park, can still have a sponsor just underneath the marque like Wintrust proposed "Wintrust Field at Comiskey Park", which was the high bid rejected by Jerry Reinsdorf in scam for kickback payments from the sad current down arrow sponsor. Ownership, management and announcers stop taunting White Sox fans or former players as scum or worse. Owner hires baseball professionals to make baseball decisions, ownership does not micromanage or intercede. Hire a baseball VP of Marketing to cater to all Chicagoans, not just aging boomers. Host a 1983 Uniform Demolition Night.

  9. Glendale made the finals last year, and I was kind of hoping for a repeat so that Colson, Ramos, and crew could get some “playoff” experience…but after a 1-5 start in week 1, they would have a lot of catching up to do. The pitching has been the best in AFL (2.92 team ERA, over a run better than second place) and Sox guys have done their part with that: Jake Eder had 3 scoreless/hitless innings in his one start and made BA’s hot sheet for the first week. Jordan Leasure has made 2 appearances: 2IP, 1R (0ER), 1H 1BB, 3K Fraser Ellard has also thrown twice: 2IP, 0ER, 1H, 1K Adisyn Coffey: 1IP, 1ER, 1H, 1BB, 1K Josimar Cousin got roughed up by the undefeated best offense (and his own defense): 2IP, 4R (3ER), BB The Glendale offense has really struggled (.192 team AVG, .559 OPS, both league worst), and the Sox bats haven’t been much of an exception to that either. Hopefully they can pick it up this week when not up against the Jobes and Robys of the world. The Week Ahead Another 6 game slate for the week. Jake Eder starts again tomorrow (10/10). Only one Glendale stream this week, for tonight’s game: Game 1: GDD vs. MSS (Gameday | Live Stream) Burke, Montgomery, Ramos at the top of the lineup again.

  10. So if there any actual information out there about what happens to the Sox after JR eventually passes? I understand his kids would inherit his shares but would they also inherit being Chairman or would the other owners be able to select a new chairman at that point?

  11. I'm so glad Love is getting exposed. Seemed like the general consensus was he was gonna be the next HOF QB for the Packers after the first 2 weeks. Turns out NFL teams won't just let you throw screens for TDs forever.

  13. A new owner can do a lot. Continued Reinsdorf involvement beyond Jerry’s tenure will be pretty much the same as now, may as well move on.

  14. I'm pulling for the Astros at this point. Most of their cheaters are gone, and if we ding them for having guys from that championship team, the Twins have 2 of them. I know Keuchel wasn't a hitter, but he had to have known (after all, a reliever is the one that broke the scandal). Add in Abreu and the fact that the Twins are the Twins, it makes it easier.

  15. This is me. Fun team, clean uniforms, likable roster. I'll get back to hating the Twins once the Sox are competitive in 4 to 5 years.

  16. I didn't do a good enough job reading but Sara Goodrum the farm director was hired by Click from the Brewers. So, probably shouldn't give credit for Framber. Nonetheless, Brewers/Astros seems a good experience to see two orgs much better at pitching development than us (to say the least)

  17. I just don't believe it. If JR really hated him I can't believe he'd be here. I truly think that outside 2005, the 2015 royals were probably JR's ideal version of baseball and I think Pedro is both a kiss-ass and also telling JR what he wants to hear: - Prospects are risky - Old vets like Andrus are great - Primadonna high played players are bad - Bullpen is important and where you should spend your money, not your starters It's like just a beautiful story he can put together for Jerry.

  18. People have so many more choices than when they wore fedoras to the game and listened on the radio. So much more than even the games in lively black and white, over the air, television. People are still entertaining themselves. Want to watch a movie? Stream it. Want to learn how to build a backyard pizza oven? Go on line and start gathering materials. When there were six stations to watch, that baseball game may have been the best option. Now, with literally millions of things to look at, it might not be to the casual fan. It's a crowded marketplace with business all fighting for your attention and time. Keep doing the same old stuff from fifty years ago and every time an octogenarian dies, so too does your business.
