This is a good question. If Madrigal got called up today, are the Sox better at 2B?

Madrigal could go 0 for his next 19 and still be batting over .300 in AA. Not too shabby.

As a 16 year old? Seems pretty impressive.

He’s been a little rusty since coming back from the injury. Does he have any hits other than the homer in his first game back? Very good to see the walks, though.

Madrigal might be the greatest AA hitter in the history of the game. He hasn’t even made an out yet. EDIT: He did get thrown out stealing once, so I suppose that is making an out. Send him back down to A+.

AA clearly not challenging enough for him. Let’s get him up to AAA.

Were you able to watch? Just curious how Burdi looked. From the box score, his inning looked a little better than “okay”.

They didn’t lie about pursuing him heavily. They pursued him very heavily.

I read that the draft starts at noon CT...which I guess should be now.

Oh, I thought he just meant the only draft pick in general...not from rounds 3-10 specifically.

I understand your point and I completely agree that they should not get cute with their first pick, but what you’re saying is not exactly accurate. Let’s say they get cute and underslot Baty. All the other guys they draft would have been available (like you mentioned), but you also have this extra guy on top of those picks. If Baty turns out to be a superstar, then losing 100 games allowed you to get him AND get those other guys that would have been available had you not lost 100 games. That being said, I absolutely do not want to go this route. Just take the best player, period.

Now the Birmingham outfield is going to be crowded during this rehab. Guess we better just promote Robert to Charlotte.

I’m thinking he would be on the Luis Robert path, but a year behind him. So end of next year is a possibility, but more likely would be the end of April 2021 (assuming he doesn’t get injured or struggle to hit in the minors).

He’ll be ready to pitch before 2021 (just like Rodon), but he won’t be with the big league club right away. Dunning hasn’t even thrown in AAA yet, so he’ll need to work his way up still once he’s back.

You’re right. What I said didn’t make much sense. I was thinking more along the lines of this...the guy who the Sox take is a bust and the other guy is a superstar. I won’t complain if that happens because I can understand the argument of taking either guy. But with the order that I ranked my guys and my sentence that you bolded, it didn’t make much sense. I just hate when people complain about draft picks using hindsight. If you like somebody much more than another guy, let’s hear it right now. Then you have every right to complain in the future if you were right and the Sox were wrong (not “you” in particular, Lillian).
