  1. I'd root ( meekly ) for the Cubs. My wife likes them a lot, my daughter likes them cuz my wife does, and I have a fair amount of Cub fans in my family. No one I know likes the Twins. Nobody. Including me.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 07:01 AM) That's just because you know everyone wants to meet you so they can kick your ass Nahhhh, that's not it at all! Not to brag, but I am well versed in many forms of combat techniques ( both traditional and unorthodox ), and I am skilled with ninja stars and a bow and arrow.... The Core Of The Core thing just smells like a Star Trek convention to me, with a ball game afterwards.....no offense.....
  3. The saddest part of this whole thing is: Any Royals fan over the age of around 30 probably remembers a KC World Series championship. ( using a 10-year-old fan at the time as the barometer ) It was 19.....19.....1985. ( to quote a horrible song ) Any White Sox fan over the age of around 98 MIGHT remember a White Sox World Series winner, assuming their memory hasn't escaped them. Now THAT's sad. Sometimes I see threads that go something like this: "Would you trade sucking for the next 10 to 20 years in exchange for a World Series title now?" Maybe the Royals fans agreed to that deal in '85.....
  4. What this proves is that not EVERYONE is looking to meet people via the Internet! I am a bit surprised that the sales are so low, but I have to say that this is not the kind of thing I'd really be all that interested in. The fact that I have 3 other games in September as well as other activities planned makes it easier to justify not going, but the fact is I probably wouldn't go to an Internet "meet-and-greet" anyway.
  5. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) That is without a doubt the greatest Oasis on the face of the earth!!! It's just a damn shame it is being completely revamped and won't resemble what it once was. So many night after shows in the city were spent at that joint at 1 in the morning. Big Mac and Fries were the standard post show dining experience. For me the post-show dining highlight was hitting one of the all-night burrito places and eating a football-sized chicken burrito....with a Diet Coke, of course....
  6. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) Hobby time for Mr. Critic. Get to work ya bum. I often like to spend my lunch break giving the Kid we call Gleason a hard time on the message boards.....really breaks up my day.....
  7. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) Not so sure I've ever seen you swear in a post. Mrs. Critic must not be around...eh? I'm at work, where swearing is not only tolerated, it's practically mandatory!!!
  8. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) Can you paste the text here? I would rather not subscribe...even if it is free. I have enough Nigerians offering to enlarge my penis...thank you. You DO realize those Nigerians are merely responding to emails sent out by MRS. GLEASON......don't you??
  9. Turns out the rabbit had fallen onto a stray carrot and it got lodged.....somewhere... Lucky for the Murphys, not so lucky for Robin the Rabbit. In all the excitement, no one checked on Robin's "condition" and soon they all left for the hospital. Things were looking grim, and Robin had to act fast. There was only one thing to do...... That's right.......Robin had no choice but to EAT the carrot out of her own ass. Not exactly the reward this heroic bunny would have hoped for..... ....and now you know.....the REST.....of the story.......G'DAY!!!
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) So what is worse, whining about the umps, or whining about the whiners? I think that whiners whining about the whining whiners who whine about the whiners' whining is worst.
  11. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 07:01 AM) Thats Brock Lesnar. Goldberg has been out of the NFL for more than 10 years. OOPS, you are correct, sir! Got my overhyped rassler/NFL washouts confused. But Dustin does look like Goldturd to me.
  12. From what I've read, when Hughes returns from her "vacation", she will return to her national FSN show ( don't remember the name, I never watch FSN at all ) but she has been removed from any Dodger coverage ( well, she'll still "cover" Derek Lowe, presumably, but not for FSN, heh ). And Kalapse - in your sig, Dustin looks a little like ex-wrestler and NFL training camp fight-starter Bill Goldberg.
  13. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) THis trade can't be fairly evaluated until the playoffs because the Cardinals knew they could win the division without Mulder, but thought they needed him to win a championship. They still may be right. ^ this. This is a case of the Cardinals trading later for now. They felt that they need a veteran arm to take that last step, and they were willing to (over)pay. I'm guessing that they feel they have similar prospects coming up through their system and that they were dealing from a point of strength. Time will tell if they're right. Beane is doing what he always does, and what he has to do financially. He sells higher-priced proven talent for less expensive prospects that his staff has done their homework on evaluating. Seems to me like both sides got what they were looking for, and that makes it a good trade for both teams.
  14. QUOTE(Spiff @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) Your flight to France is boarding The lack of football is one of the very very very very few attractive features of France.
  15. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) Just out of curiosity, how many people here eat meat? How many have visited a slaughter house and watched a pig, cow, or chicken be dispatched? I am in no way defending what these people have done, by our definition, it was cruel to animals. Yet we routinely butcher animals for our food and their fate is not much different that what that kitten went through. I sometimes wonder why most of us feel sad for the kitty while munching down on a nice hunk of beef. Not that this makes ANY slaughter of animals right at all, but the difference I see is that the animals at the slaughterhouse are not pets, and the slaughtering is not done in lieu of taking the animal to a vet. The animals at a slaughterhouse are there for one purpose, and it's not to be a cherished housepet. There's an absolute clash in my mind when it comes to eating meat. I've never been to a slaughterhouse, and I never would, just because I know I'd be sickened by what I saw there. Yet I love to eat meat, and I don't like the idea of going without a nice steak or slab of baby back ribs. I know there's a conflict there, but I live with it.
  16. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:09 AM) Lots of hype over Okkervil River. Who/what do they sound like? I have no idea who they are or what they sound like, but I hope they get famous, just so I can call them Overkill River.
  17. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) It's halfway true what they say. Nothing about the t-shirts because they are just as guilty as we are in that, but all this talking about the Cubs stuff. We have lots of sn's with CubsSux or something similar. We're always talking about them. Honestly, I'd like to see for the rest of the year to just get off the Cubs as a thought. They don't exist to us. We're not playing them any time soon. We got bigger fish to fry. I agree, but it'll never happen. The Sox are having a GREAT season and I still see tons of "Cubs Suck", "Magic Number 911", and other anti-Cub t-shirts at USCF. I just don't understand the obsession. It's fun to point out stupid s*** that Santo says or some idiotic thread on a Cub board, but if you're going to watch a Sox game where the opponent is not the Cubs, why wear an anti-Cub shirt to the game? It's not clever or funny.
  18. Was Randy Johnson driving?
  19. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) ...you could try baseball. Or, even softball if you weren't gimping out. If you keep making fun of the handicapped, pretty soon only Nuke will talk to you.
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 09:59 AM) I should know better than to make blanket comments as the one I posted above. I by no means meant anything I posted, and it was more satire than anything else. Maybe if you actually read any of my other posts you would be able to ascertain that I mean what I say about 5-10% of the time and more times than not find humor in the rousings of myself and others on this board. Critic I should've exlcuded you from my comment as I know your a long-time sox fan who frequents game, I apologize. I won't dare ever question anyones "fan-support" ever again :rolly See, that's where the green comes in handy..... There's been such a testy atmosphere around here lately that without the handy green, it really IS hard to tell what is satire and what is serious. Especially when it comes to attending games - that's a really touchy subject for Sox fans, and there's been a fair amount of sniping about that in the past. Just felt the need to defend my Uber-Fandom, that's all. ......and I'm STILL not going to the Core Of The Core Night....so there....
  21. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) You just lie and wait for me to wander along to smart off to, dont'cha??? Man's gotta have a hobby....
  22. Too bad I didn't read this thread sooner, I'd have watched. How was the show?
  23. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 09:38 AM) Great...school bus season starts soon. That means I have to get up for work a little bit earlier. Well, if your cow town had more than one main road.....
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 08:04 AM) All that excitement and NONE of you are attending. And you call yourself Sox fans. I will be bringing myself and five other fans so we will make up for the ineptness of the rest of you... You're all too whiny about it being on a Thursday night give me a break. In order to "defend" my Sox fandom..... :rolly I'm going to 3 other games in September, plus a Milwaukee game and a Bob Mould concert. Add that to my job, doing things with my daughter, playing my own softball games and some house projects we're working on and that pretty much takes up my time. Everyone has their own decisions to make on how to spend their time and money, and if that makes someone "not a Sox fan", then so be it I guess.
  25. I don't watch football unless there's nothing else on, so for me the choice is easy. Football bores me, always has.
