  1. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:23 AM) don't the Wirtz own the company that distributes liquor to the UC? Yeah, it's in that linked story. They basically pay rent to themselves and they stock their own bars at the UC through the distributorship. Nice deal if you can get it, huh?
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 08:23 AM) The Hawks lost money in 2009-2010. They had to give 50% of their playoff gate receipts to a league revenue-sharing plan they were not allowed to benefit from when times were bad? What a f***ing scam.
  3. Eh. I don't do the wave, but I don't care if others do. It's not a big deal to me. There's a lot of s*** at sporting events I don't like (that idiotic goal song the Hawks use jumps to mind), but even with that, others like it so it's not going anywhere. I'm not going to waste any more energy being bothered by that song. It's just a dumb song. Tonight's Sox game features something else I find dumb that others like - paying tribute to a bad hairstyle. But people are going to enjoy that, too, and it doesn't matter one way or the other.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) And heat definitely tends to increase crime. Pretty sure that was the gist of Soxy's post. Steve Dahl used to talk about the "85 and Over Club", referring to the fact that when the temperature went to 85 or above, crime (and especially violent crime) tended to increase.
  5. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) I know it'll sound silly, but I've secretly wanted Roy Oswalt and Roy Halladay to be on the same team for a long time. If Tampa had acquired them, they could have been the Tampa Bay Roys.
  6. Yeah, I'd much rather hear Hawk and Skowron slurp Mantle's nuts than know what the Mariners' problem is right now. I HATE guests in the booth. Mariners didn't have a beef after all, ump got smoked by foul and had to leave the game.
  7. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) I agree, but it shouldn't be done every week. I think the more it happens, the less of a threat he appears to be. I agree with you, but we both know The E don't work that way. Burn it to the ground is their motto. I believe that Miz's character is supposed to not be seen as a threat, so if he does win a World title it will be a true shock.
  8. I do like how Miz's MITB storyline is developing. He keeps trying to cash in the case when Sheamus is vulnerable but something happens to prevent it - this week being Orton's RKO before the ref could ring the bell. This is a good way to prolong the angle and keep the Miz haters happy.
  9. Joe Louis Arena - Detroit Red Wings: Inspectors also found roaches below a soda dispenser at one location. This was a misunderstanding - in Detroit, it's a tradition to throw roaches behind the soda dispensers for good luck in divisional games.
  10. Don't walk around the neighborhood after dark!!!!
  11. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) Neal Schon (seriously) Lindsey Buckingham As horrible as Journey became during the Steve Perry Reign of Terror, there's no denying Schon's greatness as a guitarist. I really liked his HSAS side project with Sammy Hagar. I LOVE Buckingham's finger-picking style of playing, and no one does an outro solo like him.
  12. Last night's ending segment on Impact made the whole ECW angle look completely ridiculous. So let's see....the ECW guys stalk TNA from the crowd for a few weeks, then they storm the ring and start a huge melee that ends with guys being pepper-sprayed....because they were invited.....by TNA's boss.....so they could kiss each other's asses and Tommy Dreamer could ask VERY NICELY for an ECW-themed Pay Per View..... Stupid.
  13. QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) He does if the money is right for him. He met with Carter at her house and laid out what had to be done like keeping only 1 of the older guys and losing the rest and getting read of some dead weight. Her reaction was apparently one of confusion not understanding. Meltzer had a lot on it in the new Observer. The basic idea now is that the talks are not dead, and that both sides need each other and it may take awhile for it to happen. Dude. It's TNA. They'll settle for less, hire Kevin Sullivan, and suffer the consequences.
  14. QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) Dixie won't let him hire or fire, and she hasn't been open to giving him a portion of the company. That's the main sticking points right now. I get the feeling that Paul E. asked for the moon knowing Dixie wouldn't give it to him. That way he can put the TNA talk to rest without possibly losing face. Just judging from interviews I've seen and read, he doesn't appear to have the itch to return to the business.
  15. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 01:20 PM) Which is why they need to bring in Heyman and give him whatever he wants. The ECW ppv will do better, but what happens the month after when all those guys are gone? The two things they need to give him are total control and time. They can't expect him to turn Nu-wCw around in 6 months, and they can't let anyone interfere. Not Hogan, not Triple J, nobody. I kind of get the feeling that Heyman keeps turning TNA down because he knows he won't get what he needs and he doesn't want to hurt his reputation as a genius wrestling mind by failing there.
  16. Man, a broken-down old punk like me could have a lot of nostalgic fun in the first two weeks of October - here are some oldies playing Chicago then: Bhopal Stiffs - Subterranean - October 7th Bad Religion, Circle Jerks, The Lawrence Arms - Congress Theatre - October 8th Cro-Mags - Double Door - October 9th Negative Approach, Zero Boys, The Meatmen - Double Door - October 10th Helmet - Double Door - October 12th How many grey-haired punks with beer guts and faded leather jackets do you think you'll see over those 5 days?
  17. Smashing Pumpkins are playing Metro next Tuesday, and Metro is raffling off most of the main floor tickets on their website. metrochicago.com. There are also $100 Balcony VIP tickets available, as well as $500 Soundcheck + ticket packages. Raffle entries are 10 bucks, and all the money goes to charity. I don't think I'll enter the raffle, but it's a nice thing to do for charity.
  18. Gleason would probably choose Brian Setzer.
  19. No surprise here at all, but this is bad news for TNA and they need to find a way to turn it around: http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/tna/sacrif...-buys-each.html
  20. My guy is Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols. I've always loved his sound - classic riffs dialed up and distorted. His solos are simple but fit the songs, and he's just the coolest motherf***er in rock n roll as far as I'm concerned.
  21. Thin Lizzy. I never got to see them, and IMO they're one of the most underappreciated bands in rock history. They have so many great songs and are only remembered for MAYBE two of them (Boys Are Back In Town and Jailbreak).
  22. QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 08:52 PM) I mostly use the Opera browser on my BlackBerry to lurk and you can't read the spoiler tags that way. It's not an issue for me, just thought I'd fill people in on this random tidbit. So stop ruining my lurking you jerk! Hahah. [spoilaroonie]The ship sinks at the end of Titanic.[end spoileroo]
  23. Okay, I'm officially bored with the Nexus. It's very "one-note" now. They need to start having them win actual matches, or at least do something other than 7-on-1 beatdowns.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 11:28 AM) Nobody has an extended run with the belts not named John Cena anymore. Kane deserves something for his loyalty and tenure. Just doesn't interest me as World Champ. I'm okay with Kane having a reign. He's been a solid worker who gets over and he doesn't seem to be a backstage whiner. An added plus is it got the belt off of Mysterio, who does bug me as world champ. Everyone knows wrestling is "fake" (except that kid yelling IT'S STILL REAL TO ME DAMMIT! in that video), but just because everyone knows it doesn't mean you have to have an elf as champion. I don't expect Kane to hold the strap very long, though.
