Why do they need 180 innings from him? The point is to build him to that. They've got a free year to give it a go. They need to get him within about 60 innings of next years target.

I don't really buy this. He's not giving less effort in the minors and the sox certainly aren't going to have any high stress games this year lol. I don't hate the idea of maybe moving him to longer relief after the break sometime to keep him in routine but limit the work load.

Truth is injuries themselves are not predictive as much as anyone wants to say otherwise. Could he be more likely based on his past? Sure. Not doing what best maximizes the players abilities and values due to some non-predictive fear is pointless imo.

80 way too little. Conservative would be about 100-120 for me. If they want to make him a starter these are the things you have to do.

If he throws only 80 innings he wouldn't even be able to top 150 next year.

How many sox fans are gonna parrot that laughable competition talking point? This isn't college. As much as the sox want to make this about effort in spring, the game is about talent. Only people with no talent tie their identities to this narrative of competing for a spot.

Maybe, but none of them can. The sox are starting fedde on opening day. He was the worst starter on a near 100 loss nats team a couple years ago. I struggle to see how a move to the bullpen fixes his issues. He doesn't even have an elite put out secondary at this point.

The entire team sucks. Kopech has some talent at least. It's not like you're pulling him and replacing him with a better option.

It's about what I expected. Making changes just to say you did. This team should be trying to maximize tail outcomes to get some unexpected value. Kopech being a closer adds no value to this team and not much value, if any, in a trade.

Yeah, bullpen was always there as an option. They have zero starting pitchers. It's crazy. This is the worst rotation in baseball the past decade.

Nothing cracks me up more on sox talk than the amount of credit/belief given to coaches for established players development or lack there of.
