  1. Madrigal is suited for #1, #2 or #9. He will undoubtedly start at #9 but like you...I think #2 is his future batting order placement.
  2. Even superstars are not worth much as one year rentals. We can offer relief of salary but no players of consequence.
  3. I agree with you. Upgrades catching overall while filling DH. Cost effective way to kill two birds with one stone.
  4. Don't forget we also have unbridled optimism for Vaughn.?
  5. At least Puig is a right fielder. All this Puig isn't nice talk doesn't scare me. They said the same about AJ and he was a big part of 05. With our Cuban connection I feel he would be kept in line if that's the way we go. Put it this way...we could do a lot worse.
  6. You make an excellent observation...a few loud voices often sound like everyone thinks like they do. I'm not saying they are right or wrong...just loud.
  7. A 4.28 era with 107 innings pitched. Gives up more than 1 hit per inning. 96 million to have a one year rental. No thanks.
  8. Balta raised a hypothetical question...I responded. My resource said 3 years left at 95 million. That's all I know.
  9. Approximately 95 million left on last 3 years...not nuts.
  10. He would be great but probably like Madrigal is for us (almost untouchable). He's my kind of player with moderate power / hits for ave / good glove / speed.
  11. Giolito isn't going anywhere. A team coming out of rebuild mode doesn't trade their ace. It would take an absurd overpay to get Gio.
  12. Four players whoever they are spreads the risk. RF is definitely the position I am most at sea about. As you know...every player talked about has some glaring weakness. A one year rental of Pederson would cost a body of some sort...Castellanos looks to have some defensive issues...Calhoun is thought to be lack luster signing...and the guy I mentioned this morning Tsutsoga is anyone's guess. I kind of think RH is liable to pull a name we haven't talked about...after all...that's what he gets paid to do.
  13. I agree with your assessment of our needs (SP & RF) in addition to DH and RP. Simply don't believe in overpay to the same extent some of you would. I am not advocating cheep...just prudent. Giving up 300 million plus two quality players for one player is an astronomical drain on resources. Wheeler, Ryu, Grandal and Pederson would be my way to spend money.
  14. That's how mega deals start. Sounds nuts until you hear about what you would be getting.
  15. You can't have it both ways. Last year you pro Machado guys said his skillset and age were a rare once in a lifetime/generational opportunity to acquire Machado at the astronomical cost of 300 million. One team stepped up and paid the price. Less than one year later you guys find another generational player but this time your conclusion is he's worth 300 million plus two quality players. Thank God RH has a little more self control than some of you.
  16. What kind of fool would give Betts the same money as Machado and throw in two quality players as well? That's who is spamming.
  17. No...but Rodon and Sanchez would get it done.
  18. Another thing to like about how the WS treat their own.
  19. Thank you...I like you too. My point was not that I think we are getting both Cole & Wheeler. I was referring to the fluid nature of this offseason. If someone becomes available unexpectedly like Mike Trout we may need to take away resources from other areas. No... I don't expect that to happen nor do I really expect the Cole/Wheeler deals to both happen. Just try to hope the stars align and we get some pleasant surprises. I get it...some of you think nothing good can happen until JR is gone. I choose to disagree.
  20. As you know...some posters like to knock others ideas without having any of their own.
  21. Last offseason the Padres didn't have a seat at the table...until they did.
