A talent evaluator brought into the FO would be a welcome addition. We obviously aren't very good at that.

If Hahn is back and I think he will be...I expect our off season to be Tony retires for health reasons and we pray for better health. A new manager brings in a mostly new coaching staff and we part ways with Jose. Vaughn is our 1st baseman with Eloy the DH. We bring up Colas and we see hope for a better season.

Sounds bad when you say it like that.

I agree with both points. The Tampa FO has proved they are good evaluators of talent and operate with next to nothing for payroll. Quatraro being from that organization might be expected to know a few things. Jirschele will be my actual preference for the manager's job. I'm getting on record with my Jirschele pick because that will be the front and center topic as soon as we finish this disappointing season.

Just sign Aaron Judge this off season and all will be forgiven.

I have often been a defender of RH in the past. However, his signing of Leury to a 3-year contract at 5.5 per year was pathetic. One year at 5 million with an option for 5.5 should have been more than enough to acquire his services. I think Hahn is a very good contracts guy, but his player decisions leave me perplexed. How did Kelly deserve a 7+ million contract coming off an injury? Just because 5 or 6 million isn't a fortune in today's baseball world doesn't mean we should throw it away on marginal talent. At the least I hope we realign the FO jobs with the skill sets they have demonstrated. RH is not a talent evaluator.

Who could disagree?

I suspect that lack of desire plays a large part in our underperformance. We needed to win this series with Cleveland and yet the visitors played with far more enthusiasm to play these games. We need a throwback manager like Billy Martin who had the philosophy that if you don't hustle you don't play.
-
We lost because Grandal, Moncada, Robert, Gio, and Kelly underperformed expectations. The numerous IL visits by the entire team was a major factor as well. I can't think of another team having so many key players underperform. The coaches, trainers, and manager should be held accountable IMO.

Gee...I guess a manager could make some decisions that can make a difference.

I will watch every game until it's over and the fat lady has sung. Five months without baseball will give you plenty of time to recuperate.

Dayton Moore fired in KC. Interesting name if we were considering a change.
-
A very tall order but a piece of legendary future history if we pull it off.

Injury and under-performance by half the team is why we probably won't win the division...not Sheets/Vaughn/Engel playing RF. My off-season remarks were aimed at 2nd base being the #1 need and Conforto not being better than the RF combo mentioned above. Just for the record...90% of this board doesn't agree on anything.

He will not be traded for an insignificant aging RP or a bag of balls. Frankly...I doubt he will be traded at all. There are many things to be disappointed about this season...Sheets is way down the list.
-
Who said anything about Sheets being a mainstay? I said he won't be traded for an aging RP.
-
Well...we shall see. Many players on this team have disappointed far worse than Sheets.
-
A sweep would make this a favorite memory in a few years. Those unforgettable Sox moments come from this type of situation.
-
That's why I said IMO. I sure wouldn't be trading him for some aging RP.
-
The best we have...and in limited play.
-
Yes!

Left-handed power bats are not that easy to find. He will be on our bench (as he should be) before he is traded for nothing IMO.

Where these players should start the season in 2023

He has potential to be the most improved player om 2023. -
Sheets has considerably more value than to trade him for "an aging RP" IMO.

I am also a fan of the pitch clock. It is not entertaining to watch a pitcher gather his courage to throw another ball out and away from the hitter he is obviously afraid of.
