Nice to talk about being in the playoffs realistically.

Zambrono Gets Screwed out of a NoNo
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
A bad call does not reflect on the integrity of the game. Suspend a guy for a mistake? No way. -
The first thing that I thought of was that this had huge implications for us. This probably does put Boston in the Wild Card, meaning they will play Seattle, meaning the Central Division Champs, us, get the Yankees. Hello Prime Time. Had Oakland and Seattle made the playoffs, we probably would have played their Division Champ.

Did y'all stay tuned for the post game show? Buehrle and several others shaving cream pied Cottsy during his interview. I'm sure he got the beer shower too. I'd run him out against the Tigers on Friday and use Mark against NY. A big White Sox welcome to Scott Sullivan too!

Zambrano has the goods, but I waste no tears for anything Cub related. -
I think they'll both help the Redbirds. And anything that hurts the Cubs is AOK with me.

Murcie one, from your lips to God's ear. And let's not compare Crede to Clayton. PPPUHLEEEEZE. Defensively Crede goes to his left fabulously. To his right, rarely.

Boras couldn't care less about his credibility. It's all about maxing out his dollars. Ask Bobby Hill how Boras's credibility has helped him. And the A-Rod texas thing has turned into a lose-lose deal. I know we won't deal with him because he's in a different financial universe, but it doesn't bother me a bit. You can win without his clients, or go broke with them.

The thing here is that both sides are right. Manuel is to blame for the absolutely putrid start. I have never seen a team more unprepared to start a season as we were. If you saw the KC series to open the year, they were Detroit bad. Popups being dropped, Carlos striking out when he thought he only had a two strike count, somebody else thought he struck out when he had a one strike count, jeez. But that's ancient history now. For whatever reason (and I say it's Kenny Williams remaking the team) we are clicking on all cylinders. Enjoy it. And moronacy is not a word.

Because of the off day on Monday, Manuel has a choice. He could flipflop Cotts and Buehrle. I think that's what he'll do, and I would too. Nothing against Cotts, I just think he'll want to use his best against the Bronx Bombers.

Anybody who says Rowand sucks is seeing a different Aaron Rowand from the guy I've seen. I think he's done a great job in a difficult role, and does a lot of the little things well. Also one big thing - a homer against the Cubs to tie that Saturday USCF game.
-
Einhorn? Doubt it. I think it's KW. I was dead set against him when he was hired and pissed off through his many mistakes, but damn, he's going all out now.

5th starter?? If Cotts falters.
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to RibbieRubarb's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If you sit down with the schedule and look at our rotation, counting tonight, we will need the fifth starter at least 6 more times, and that's by using the offdays to skip the 5th spot. We can use the offdays to keep the 5th spot from facing NY and Minny, but it looks to me that we're gonna need him for Det next weekend, Cleveland the follwing Saturday, Boston on the 14th, and then KC on the 21st and 25th. So don't think we can skate by with just the big four. Here's hoping Cotts can step up. -
Breaking News: Sox acquire Scott Sullivan
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
According to the Media Guide Hummel was on the 40 man roster, so if he's the guy, that answers the question of whether a PTBNL can be on the 40. I think it's a very nice trade. Maybe next year the Reds infield will include Hummel and Jiminez. The ghosts of White Sox past. -
HSC'SBF is correct. It was Randy Myers.

Breaking News: Sox acquire Scott Sullivan

1. No way the Reds want a high priced player, so you can forget Konerko or Koch. that's not gonna happen. 2. Even though a guy is on the disabled list today, that doesn't mean that he won't be the guy later. Both teams agree it's Joe Blow with the sprained ankle, then we Joe gets healthy, he can be the ptbnl. 3. I agree Borchard has been disappointing, but I don't see the White Sox forgetting the 5 million they already gave him. They'll keep him in the minors for six years in hopes of him finding his way. -
I'm voting for the Falstaff girl. Of course this was in 1972. If you want a more current bad commercial, does anyone remember Robin Ventura and Barry Jones for a clothing store (Irv's? Manny's?) in 1990. Hilarious.

Don't forget a very good double play turned by Alomar ranging to his left, making a strong throw to Jose, and Jose with a rifle to first. This preceded back to back homers, so it was a key play in the game.

Anyone else enthusaistic...
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to Wise Master Buehrle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd like to like him, but he's just been s***. Scott Sullivan just made Koch's rehabilitation time longer. Like maybe next year long. No way Koch makes the post season roster over Sullivan. -
I'll just say that the playoff schedule post, and this one, make compelling reading.

I know you can't ptbnl a guy who's on the disabled list. My first thought was Adkins too. I'm sure it's not Borchard. Very happy with the pickup, and if you think about it, Sullivan's addition may lead to Koch not making the 25 man post season roster. I also wouldn't be surprised if they extend Koch's disable list time to carry them past September first, when the roster can expand. I do not think Harris is going down. Jerry's been using him behind Everett, and while Rowand could do a great job of that, then you're out of outfielders. -
Just no way anybody nowadays trades a great young pitching prospect (meaning cheap salary) for a guy getting multimillions, especially a guy who's running hot and cold.

Sox players in the Arizona Fall League
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to Cerbaho-WG's topic in Pale Hose Talk
the paper today said that the Sox want to teach Cotts a cutter, to give him the Buehrle package of pitches. So I'm sure they want him to work on that. It's great to get this type of info. Thanks.
