MLB 2020-21 off season catch all
If the Sox traded for Burnes for that madrigal package, their projected ‘24 rotation without a giolito extension would be Burnes/Kopech/Cease/Crochet/Thompson/Dalquist/FA. I’d rather have that kind of projected rotation than madrigal and Heuer every day of the week. Gio/Burnes/Kopech/Cease/Crochet with Gio extension even better.

Foodies: Sox/Giolito discussing an extension?????
He was talking about Hahn’s statement about multiple championships. Have to follow the thread for context

Alright so once in the last six years.

Foodies: Sox/Giolito discussing an extension?????
There’s no way to know if Giolito will be a productive player four years from now. If you’re just going to give him what he theoretically would be able to get in free agency four years in advance might as well just wait and sign him as a free agent.

Abreu has been on the DL one time in his career

Foodies: Sox/Giolito discussing an extension?????
Technically speaking winning the AL would be a championship. That’s why it’s called the championship series. The Braves and Dodgers did win numerous championships in that case.

Foodies: Sox/Giolito discussing an extension?????
Stone is right though. Giolito might be able to sign for 30+ million if he reaches free agency. He also might be unable to command 10 million. That’s why a 5/75-80 is reasonable. 25 per free agency year vs gambling making it through next three years in order to command a higher salary. Signing the extension would be the prudent choice

Pitchers and Catchers Report
I must have missed all the 24 year old ace upside starters available on the free agent market
-
the old Corbin Burnes thread, we have a new Burnes thread
I’m trying to remember the last time the Sox traded for a 24 year old at mlb minimum with ace upside and four years of control remaining, for there to be an apt comparison to make. Also having a hard time imagining how trading a second baseman for a starting pitcher is going to result in an increase in desperation for starting pitchers.

the old Corbin Burnes thread, we have a new Burnes thread
Where he was taken in the draft is a sunken cost and therefore irrelevant. The value of the acquisition is the pertinent question.

Harold Baines put up a .919 ops at age 40. Followed up with a .754 at 41 and .345 at 42.

Trade Whispers - Starting Pitchers
If the Sox wanted to move Lopez for nothing they would’ve just nontendered him.

Pitchers and Catchers Report
Bad in the sense they’re unreasonable to expect a madrigal centered trade to be enough to compel the Brewers to trade the vastly more valuable Burnes or Woodruff I have to assume you mean.

Trade Whispers - Starting Pitchers
Pretty sure either one of those would top a sixteen year old who hasn’t even played professional baseball

Garrett Richards to Boston, 1 year $10 million.
I’d think that leverage would be undermined by the fact he has been pitching for the last few years with a bum elbow that could explode at any moment. Richards is a far lesser risk than Tanaka since he already had his torn ligament repaired.

DH Options
Pederson isn’t a high end free agent. He probably signs for a few million less per year than Brantley. I’m guessing 2/16-20 for Pederson and 3/40 for Brantley
