  1. Wasn't there a football player that was doing the "Tim Anderson" after a sack this weekend? Maybe he's going to start a trend with the hand gestures!
  2. I agree with this statement, even more in the MLB you need to take best talent available, damn with position. Taking a RP you BETTER at least get mediocre MLB player out of that 1st pick.
  3. There are plenty of these in MLB. In NFL if you have a failed 1st round pick it's a pretty big deal, but in baseball, they happen about 75% of the time it seems. Probably even higher considering where Burdi was drafted!
  4. Kopech hasn't pitched in what 3-4 days, likely he's going to be held out tonight and he will start the FOD game and hopefully give us 3 IP. Followed by a bunch of 1 inning bull pen relief!
  5. Imagine if Zack Wheeler would have chosen the Sox and we would have him instead of Keuchel, because that's where Wheelers money went... That would be 5 guys all throwing on average 95+... daaaaayummm!
  6. Not many of you Soxtalk people know me, I was on WSI for the longest and run our Dynasty Fantasy League for the past 16 years. My season ticket group won 2 tickets and a parking pass. They are interested in listing them on stubhub, but the Sox haven't given us our actual location because, I believe, the season ticket holders might actually get "seats" instead of the bleachers like you're seeing now. I can talk to my group and see if they would be interested in a raffle. We would have to guarantee at least 200 people though, because with seats, we are certain we could get that amount for them. But I'd be happy with any of the admins running the venmo and could do a live stream of the selection process to see who wins the tickets if you all are serious about this? Would probably have to do a poll to see how many are interested to see if we could meet the requirement from my group.
  7. Unfortunately there are NO GAMES every Monday in MiLB... ugh! Monday's are the worst! However, I like their schedule where they play the same team for 6 games and everyone has Monday off. I wouldn't mind MLB adapting some sort of schedule like this, maybe the AL has Monday's off and the NL Tuesday off (which wouldn't work for interleague), but it would cut down on travel. I'm sure there is a genius out there that could make this work!
  8. The rules need to change a little bit based on this. If the player is willing to sign for his slot value, then the team should have to sign that player if they drafted him. Now if the player wants more than slot, then I agree the team can choose not to sign him. Rocker should file a lawsuit against MLB, allowing him to become a free agent. If the team chooses not to sign a player for slot value or lower, then that Player should become a free agent and not have to go back into the draft the following year. If there are concerns with health, then you shouldn't have drafted him until a round where the slot value was where you were willing to go for him. It's a disservice to this young man!
  9. Currently Rogers and Sixto on the IL, Cabrera just came off the IL. They have built quite the pitching rotation talent... let's see if they can keep them healthy.
  10. If he isn't quite the hitter as the DH then you have to put him in LF. He's an elite hitter and you need that. I'm not saying he can't adapt, but this is what you do with your elite players. Just like putting TA in the leadoff roll well before he "earned" it, then he went and won a batting title!
  11. I was just using rotochamp lineup and bullpens, assumed they had the correct data on there... I didn't check other sources. But the point is still there. The only dominant arm is Kimbrel.
  12. Those guys wont' factor into the playoffs unless you're losing a game by 7 runs. You will have a bullpen of about 4 arms total for the playoffs and a SP in the bullpen.
  13. btw... if you look at our bullpen ERA and K's... it's not like there are a lot of upgrades out there. If you're thinking Hudson and Hand are an upgrade... you may be mistaken. They are pitching in the NL and here are their standard stats: Hudson - 25 IP, 32K, 3.85 ERA Hand - 26 IP, 31K, 3.52 ERA Bummer - 24 IP, 29 K, 3.29 ERA Heuer - 24 IP, 23 K, 3.96 ERA Crochet - 23 IP, 26 K, 3.42 ERA I would take Hudson or Hand, but they aren't the answer to having a lock down 7th or 8th inning guy. Yimi Garcia (mia) - 24 IP, 25 K, 3.79 ERA Rodriguez (pit) - 25 IP, 26 K, 3.45 ERA Iglesias (laa) - 25 IP, 35 K, 3.25 ERA Kennedy (tex) - 25 IP, 27 K, 4.01 ERA Kimbrel is the only RP that is actually having a season that is a true upgrade to what we have in the bullpen unfortunately. Come playoffs, maybe adding Cease to the bullpen helps us as much as adding a Hudson or Hand?
  14. A lot of times playing less than full effort actually has more of a chance of injuring yourself. Like when you have a bum foot so more pressure, etc goes to the healthy foot. These guys are professional athletes. If they are healthy, they need to be going about their business like they are used to. If they get re-injured, it happens. But to try and "limit" how hard they play, does not help them get ready... IMO obviously!
  15. Really??? So we are without 44% of our starting offense and you don't think we are ready to compete for a playoff run. That's obvious. However, With Eloy, Robert, Grandal in the lineup we are looking at a top 7 hitters of Anderson, Moncada, Abreu, Eloy, Vaughn, Grandal, Robert... then RF, 2B... that's a lineup that can make a serious run in the playoffs. What we don't have is RP that is ready to make a run. We thought we had one, but they aren't performing. That is what we need. I'll take a 2B upgrade, I'll take a RF upgrade, but that is not NEEDED to make a run. We NEED 2 RP that can cover 6th and 7th.
  16. Wrong... the reason Kopech stayed in the game and did not get double switched for is because Collins hasn't been the best at receiving and there was no way Tony wanted Crochet to pitch to 3 batters starting the 8th. He got Crochet up in case Kopech couldn't get out Yelich. I'm defending LaRussa on this one.
  17. So with the above contracts, our core (not including rookies and fill in type players, which should account for no more than $5-10M/yr) 2022 - 145.3 (with Lynn) 2023 - 153.3 2024 - 163.1 those are all assuming we pick up 100% of the options. To keep the core together you make the following 2 signings: Abrue - 2 years / 32M - with 3rd year option at 12M Rodon - 3 years / 63M (20,21,22 1M year escalating contract) which brings you to: 2022 - 163.3 2023 - 188.3 (if you keep Keuchel from 150 IP, then this reduces to 168.3) 2024 - 163.1 (BIGGEST LOSS IS GRANDAL) This keeps us at around 163 for the next 3 years after this year. We fill RF with our young position players (Cespedes, Sheets, Burger, Colas) and our Rotation fills with Kopech in place of Keuchel and Crochet as our 6th man to fill in when needed.
  18. What a start from Keuchel... he looked great! Big win for sure, with the amount of injuries and Moncada, our best hitter so far, out of the lineup again. If we are able to grab tomorrows game with Giolito pitching, this team is unreal!
  19. Yeah I wasn't counting on this win tonight, after losing yesterday I kind of thought it was a series loss. Keuchel really pitched well, 8 K's has to be a high for him over the past several years, right? I kind of like Yermin in the 2 hole with Grandal / Vaughn at 5/6. It puts our best 6 hitters at the top. No more Lamb in the 2 hole against RHP. Let's hit our best 6 in the top 6 in the order.
  20. Hello everyone, fairly new user here, but long time member at WSI, don't hold it against me. I have 2 season ticket seats in section 124, row 17, seats 6/7 (actually row 12 behind the visitor dugout) Face value for the games below, I would prefer someone to go so shoot me your best offer: Thursday - 2 tickets - value $110 Friday - 2 tickets - value $122 PM Me and I can deliver the tickets ASAP. You can pay via Venmo or Paypal, I have both.
  21. We just had 2 straight off days, 100% of the bullpen will be available all weekend, unless we have a starter only go 3 innings. I'd much rather have a good OF because we need the potential defense late in a game.
  22. I thought I read that someone was doing sections of vaccinated people with no social distancing. If you buy tickets in that section then you have to prove vaccination. I think this is a decent compromise. Maybe every other section or something can be full capacity vs social distancing. Therefore still giving good seats and all locations to both parties. Might help increase the capacity under the current guidelines?
  23. You don't think if Robert could do that, he would? He should also stop swinging at sliders low and outside in the dirt... I just don't think it's in his mindset. Sometimes, it looks as if he's up there to swing 3 times, and it doesn't matter what pitch comes in, he's going to swing. It's kind of weird, and frustrating!
  24. I completely agree with this, especially in baseball when prospects take a minimum of 2 years to develop anyways, and who the hell really knows where you're needs are going to be over that span. Get the best talent and you can structure your team around that talent as they develop. Same thing in the 16 draft when Kyle Lewis was picked right after the Sox took Collins. No way Collins was a better prospect, but we picked for need. And now Lewis and Robert in the OF would be hella good! But... in the baseball draft it's FULL of what if's..,
