I figure it’s gotta be both, but at this point I’d have to assign more blame to the coaching staff. I’m of the belief that the physical struggles are a product of the mental struggles. I’ve been willing to accept Venable’s shortcomings on the tactical side with the idea that he excels in the clubhouse and getting the guys ready to play each day. That appeared to be the case for most of the season. With this recent collapse, it seems like he’s not pushing any right buttons to help ease the pressure they’re clearly feeling. It’s obviously not an easy job, but it literally is his job and he’s failing at it.

Venable’s gonna somehow find a way to bat Mune 2nd, 4th, and 6th today.

The Colson and Mune stuff is tough to watch on both a fan and a human level. My guess is they’re mentally drained, making them way more susceptible to feel the pressure and therefore less able to make the necessary adjustments. I don’t think they’re just stupid and/or broken forever, as some posters have declared. Baseball is fucking hard man.

Exactly this. The clubhouse stuff is supposed to be Venable’s strength. So much more disappointing than putting in the wrong reliever or whatever.

Considering pretty much everyone has failed miserably with RISP lately, not even Vasil’s magic wand can help Venable with that one. I think it’s just up to the players to execute at this point. But I do think it’s up to Venable to find a way to ease the pressure the team is feeling. How? I have no idea, but it’s his damn job to figure it out.

I can’t believe I have to say this, but the 2005 and the 1959 (lol) teams would get destroyed by today’s pitching and we’d be cleverly inserting K’s into a lot more names. The game has changed. It is what it is. But that doesn’t mean I’m not frustrated by the Sox inability to make adjustments.

Here’s the way I see it: Yes, it’s unfortunate and embarrassing for the organization that there’s a history of appalling behavior among staff. Yes, Shirley’s resignation does not magically undo what those affected experienced. Yes, sadly, I do think this kind of thing continues to go on across the league, whether unreported or without repercussions. BUT at least Shirley is no longer one of them. It’s one less shitty scumbag that people have to be subjected to.

For those that wanna cling to the Crede/Grichuck homer thing, the 05 team did lose the next two after the Crede homer game. I’m not saying I believe in this team, but I do believe that baseball is a very weird game.

Man I am so here for Caleb Williams: Veteran QB. He looked great. The growth really stood out.
